My new Evolution .....
There is a lot of ignorance flying around here on a lot of issues. I won't debate the aesthetics of the Evo vs. the S2000, nor will I debate the reliability since both have been 100% reliable for me (60K mi in my 1st S2K, 23K+ mi in my Evo, only 1300 mi in my new S2K).
What I will counter is that the S2K is such a great handling car, especially compared to an Evo. The S2K is a wonderful car (I wouldn't have bought a 2nd one if it wasn't), but to confuse that tied-down feeling with true handling is a different matter altogether. Other Evo owners (and I would guess Carrera 4 and STi owners) would all tell you that there are some turns (on road or track) that you can take with complete confidence and tons of speed that would loop even the best-driven S2000. It's not opinion, but fact. Go to an open track day or even an autocross and watch - both the times and the spins.
Also, the Evo has never been intended to compete with a bespoke sports car like the S2K in its layout, interior, etc. What it was intended to do is to provide maximum performance in an affordable package. I would say that it achieves that.
I think there is still a lot of performance jealous flying around. When your car is slower than another car, there is some pang of jealousy. I feel it sometimes when I pull up on a Porsche Turbo in my Evo. It's not a big deal - we all know the S2K is a fantastic car (and a bigger chick magnet than the Evo could hope to be).
I'd like to see all the higher-end Japanese and Euro guys keep it on a mutual respect level. All of our cars, whether S2000, Evo, M3, etc. are great - just different. It wouldn't be much fun if we all drove the same cars...

I can't believe how far this thread has gone ....
Anyway does anyone want to buy my Evo .... currently has 16k trouble free miles ... looking to get a 2004 TL ... something alot more luxurious than either an Evo or S2000.
I am finding that after the birth of my two boys 4 months ago it really doesnt matter how fast I can go in a straight line or how well the car handles.

I have an S2000, and instruct for a few of the clubs around the bay area so I've had seat time in a few different evos. Stock for stock, the EVO is very very close to the s2000. At Laguna, I haven't seen a stock one (as in stock down the to tires) turn better times than I did, stock. (as in 1000 miles on the car, full tread depth stock tires, etc).
The EVOs are easier to drive fast, there's no doubt about it, but the s2000 is 400 - 500 lbs lighter. I think the s2000 is a more rewarding car to drive at 9/10ths than the evo. but, stock for stock, in my experience, the s2000 is faster around a track, even comparing the stock tires... it's just that much ligher and not a whole lot slower. The EVO has quicker steering and is much more confidence inspiring, because of it's relatively neutral handling... the S2000 understeers more in slow speed corners, but I think it does better under trail braking (more even weight distribution)
That said, the EVO is much easier to make much faster.

I agree with kitwetzler 100%. However, SCC just listed top 100 sport compact cars of all time and Evo came in first!? S2000 is listed at #32!? I think the S should be #2 behind the Evo, or vice versa. I own both, so I can't be biased.
