Default Need Advice

So I've been waiting for the right s2k to turn up and I've found one....only problem is it's about 27hours/1700+miles away . Should I ship it back home, drive it back, or maybe just continue to be patient and wait for something to show up closer to home? I dont know what the average cost is to ship a car, and my friend is telling me if I did the car would probably end up w/a few dings and scratches. What would you guys suggest?

Fly in and drive it back. How else will you check the car over before actually purchasing it?

Details? If it is THE car then fly out and drive it back, if it is just a car then wait till one is closer to you.

Some of the best driving/riding experiences i've had are from obtaining the vehicle and driving it back; though none 1700 miles away. I'd probably get some racers/painter's tape if you are worried about paint chips. 1700 miles in gas and time should obviously be considered the purchase price.

Well, it's not really THE car that I wanted...but close enough. I want an '04-'07 GPW s2k w/low mileage, however whenever one does show up the cost seems to be a bit out of my range. I'm trying to keep the cost within $15k-$17k. This s2k I found that's 1700 miles away, is an '01 with about 28k miles. I'm located in Maryland, car is located in Colorado and actually for sale on this forum.

Id say go for it. Fly out and drive back. Bring someone with you and make a mini vacation out of it.

1700 miles in that little car is getting LONG. But it could be fun, may take 4 days without it feeling like work though.

Let us know.

A friend of mine recently bought a supercharged Miata on EBay, then flew out to NW WA and drove back to San Antonio. He got some route advice for good scenery/twisties along the way, and took/posted pics about his experience. Sounds like he had a good time, ex. for the final boring stretch down I10 to SA.

If you're gonna drive it back, you better trust everything is in good shape. I got hosed trying to drive a car back.

I drove mine for 2000miles, and loved every bit of it. It probably helped that the novelty of driving the car kept me from complaining about the drive. Pick some good destinations along the way and you'll have a blast.
