Drive should be fun, and that's not too bad provided you got the time.
Thing is though, around here cars within your parameters pop up moderately frequently. So while the drive may be worth it, you might be able to find the right car soon enough. Also, having owned a 00, I'm not a fan of the 00-01s, I'd at least hold off for a 02+.

If you're gonna drive it back, you better trust everything is in good shape. I got hosed trying to drive a car back.

A buddy of mine bought a Lotus Esprit and the diff locked up on his drive home... while he was cruising at 70mph down the highway. Needless to say, he was particularly miffed and promptly got his money back.

I say don't get it. If you have your heart set on an ap2 you should definitely wait for one. I would rather get the year and color combo you want.

I'm surprised he got his money back! If you know Lotus Esprits you know that they aren't very reliable and it's not surprising something like that happened

Well, it's not really THE car that I wanted...but close enough. I want an '04-'07 GPW s2k w/low mileage, however whenever one does show up the cost seems to be a bit out of my range. I'm trying to keep the cost within $15k-$17k. This s2k I found that's 1700 miles away, is an '01 with about 28k miles. I'm located in Maryland, car is located in Colorado and actually for sale on this forum.
If it was the 04-07 that you really want I'd do it, otherwise I'd keep looking.

May I ask what it was about the '00-'01 models that you didn't like?
