[QUOTE=marthafokker,Jan 12 2008, 01:48 PM] From a group of fans that love the limited slips and hate computers doing breaking for you on corners....

some of you guys are suddenly okay with a car without LSD and want computers to break on the corners instead?

I must be missing something.

oh what's a tractrix cable?
it's a cable that connects your laptop to your OBDII port so you can use the softwares you have on the computer to change settings in your ECU, aka tuning your ECU.

there are lots of existing maps all over the web, so oftentimes people upload an existing map into their ECU as the base map, then fine tune on top of that to get the best gain for your car while maintaining ultimate safety.

I personally think that the STi looks great as a hatch. I just wish they still offered the Sedan.

The 135 - Not so much.

I also wonder why SUbaru doesn't tune it's car from the factory such as make it 330hp stock would be easier to sell I would think, maybe it's cause of emissions or gas mileage? IDK

Emissions, I suspect. And it's pretty cool to hook up your laptop to your car to flash a map. A whole lot of area under the curve for $80.

I don't understand S2000 owners talking about 5-60 times. The car is out of its powerband, it's not fair. Why don't we do times to 100 mph where you can only hit 5.9k then you must upshift.

it's definitely fun for those who knows what they're doing...if you're a n00b at tuning your ECU (main parameters include AFR, knock sums, timing advance/retard etc) then you could risk blowing up your motor

as far as i know the Bimmers don't have such an option yet, european ECU's are tricky.

You don't need to tune anything. Just get a map from A GOOD SOURCE, flash it, then have your laptop read what the car is doing. From there, you post that log online and someone will look at it and give you advice about how your car is running.

Base maps are just that...the base for starting a real tune. Mail in flashes are notoriously shit. A good tune is a necessary, IMO.
