My understanding is that with this car the best 0-60 is generated with a clutch drop at around 6K rpm. You wanna do that on a regular basis (particularly with an AWD car)?
Actually, yes.

I'll buy a new clutch if I fry the stock one.

My "normal" driving is not so normal.

But if you drive normally, why not buy a normal car like a Camry or an Accord?

I'm thinking 3 yr lease, use it like a dirty whore, and return it.

You should see my 4-wheel tirespinning RS4 starts....

And I'm sure the tires and clutches are cheaper to replace on the STi.

Maybe it's a good thing I drive the Honda most days....

Boy your in for a BIG SURPRISE in regards to xDrive

I really cant wait to drive the 135i. I mean power is everywhere. Every article I have read say that they've nailed the throttle in 6th gear and the car is ready to boogie.

I believe there is +35hp just for a computer reflash with this car.

My point is OK it's not a 3L car or a 4L V8 (like the M3) and it's not great down low. I wonder if there is a fix for the turbo lag? Or else (like the S2000) the solution is to keep it in too low of a gear (ie keep the revs too high).

I'm not too worried but that 5-60 test does bug me. I don't like to do full rpm clutch drop acceleration on my own cars as the clutch takes a lot of abuse. But I suspect the STi is not too much of a dog.

It will be like my Legacy only better it will be able to carry insane speed on a B-road. Not necessarly a great brute accleleration but a great momemtum car.
Oh yeah, tuning capability with this new one will be better than any of the previous models. We are finding that out already. 0-60MPH is 4.9 seconds on the new Sti stock. That is plenty fast, and different from the S, it has TORQUE to go with it. It'll have the minerals. I think Suby knows most are going to mod the thing. A Cobb AP with no other mods changes things significantly.

5-60 isn't really a fair test for a turbo car, especially a small displacement one. You take a single element that severely hampers a turbo engines performance and exploit it drastically. If you leave the line in a spirited manner, but not to the point of dumping the clutch you will certainly beat the 6.5 second time. You will be full throttle with boost sooner than rolling at 5mph and then hammering it. There just isn't enough exhuast pressure. Also you could cheat a little and power brake at 5mph to build boost, also not very good for parts.

335i - 5.6 (couldn't find 135 time)
Sti - 6.5
C5 LS1 - 5.1

I live in Florida Tommy. An STI's abilities would be just as useless to me as the 135i would be useless to you in the snow. You better pray that BMW dosent incorporate their new X-Drive system into the future 1 series(see X6). If they do, then thats a wrap!
Err? So the AWD is just for the snow??? Even with practically R compound tires on the thing???

The Sti AWD isnt for "weather" its for kick ass performance.
