Default Parenthood

I bought my Newfoundland a car last night. An FX35 RWD sport in light silver with black interior. Lucy, the Newfoundland, goes to doggy daycamp on Mon., Wed., and Fri. She is topping 130lbs now, so my wife can no longer get her into the car (Lucy, ever the princess, won't jump in herself). So, I was either on full-time daycamp duty (not good), or I had to get a car to accommodate Lucy (I can put the dog in my wife's car at home in the morning for her to take Lucy to daycamp and then I can pick the dog up at the end of the day). Since I had to get the dog a car, I'm selling my S2000 now (my Old Lady said I should keep it, but I'm not interested in three cars). Know anyone looking for a nice '04 GPW (I have it listed in the for sale forum)?

We now have two FXs (the other is AWD w/o the sport package, which noticeably improves handling and steering feel). I always thought it was super lame for a family to have 2 of the same cars, but I've really enjoyed our '05 and couldn't find anything else suitable for our needs. The entry German wagons (328i and A4) are too small for Lucy, the mid German wagons (5 series, A6, and E class) are too much at $60K, the MDX is too big for me, the X3 leases out a good bit higher, the RX is just too damn boring for me, and the RWD sport FX should be more fun than a FWD Passat or Volvo wagon. I'm very surprised how much I like driving the FX. Never thought the day would come that I enjoy driving an SUV. But, I can't think of any SUV like the FX, in that it can be had in RWD and weighs a relatively light 4,100 lbs or so. The motor could be smoother, but maybe it adds character? All in all, I really dig the car.

That's my story.

Cheers.

I love the FX, probably the best looking SUV IMO

An RDX was too small? New, it's cheaper than a typical FX and it's nearly as sporty, I'm told (if not equally as sporty).

Smaller, but should have at least the same amount of cargo room.

Either way, great choice. I love the FX! My wife has wanted one forever, but she doesn't like the idea of 18mpg in a daily driver.

I never looked at the RDX. I, personally, think they're hideous with that angry kitchen appliance front end and all the ribbing and cladding. I've also seen in reviews where the turbo 4 gets awful mileage (13 or 14 mpg?). The computer in our AWD '05 says we average around 18.5, so I hope to do about 20.5 in the RWD one. I only figured my mileage on the S2000 during one tank, and I think it came it at 21.5. So, the FX may not be much of a change in the mileage department.

I do think the new EX35 looks like it may be pretty cool. It rides on the same 112" wheelbase as the FX, so I doubt it will be noticeably smaller (I suspect the FX will get bigger with a 3rd row for '09), but it will probably be a bit cheaper. It will also have a nicer interior and the updated VQ with probably the G's 306 h.p. I showed my wife pics of the concept car, and she doesn't like it, but she does love our new '07. So, if I like the new EX (which the sales guy said won't be on the road until the very end of this year or early next year), I can just swap in the '05 and give the '07 to my wife. SUV fanboi.

Wait, you sold your S2000 to buy the same model truck your wife drives, all so you can take your dog to day care? You take your dog to day care? You sold your S because of your dog? I just want to make sure I'm understanding this...
