Ahhh...Launch Control.

"Naturally, the PDK allows Launch Control. The protocol is pretty simple: Select Sport Plus mode; hold your left foot on the brake; mash the gas -- the engine will rev to 6500 rpm and hold; step off the brake. And that's it. We did 10 launch control starts in a row -- our fastest time came on the eighth run -- without a whiff of expensively toasted clutch or unseemly slippage. It feels utterly bulletproof."
And knowing Porsche, their launch control is probably designed to be, you know, used rather than ignored for fear of blowing something up in a warranty-voiding manner.

I'm also pretty stoked about the Cayman S with PDK (and LSD finally!), but I don't know if I'll be able to give up the old fashioned joy of mastering a stick'n'clutch.

I can say with certainty that the DSG/PDK tranny is no substitute for a manual gear box to anyone looking to get the most out of their driving experience.
How about Ferrari's F1 tranny that is the only option in the Scuderia? Great auto mode and you get to play F1 driver too

I believe there were times with the old model in the at 4 flat, with wheel hop. Of course this one has a nice power upgrade and keep in mind launch control allows nearly full-throttle starts with minimal wheel spin so the slight shave in time adds up.
Plus the 3.9 number comes on the cab model, which is usually about 0.2 seconds slower than the coupe. So the new numbers are certainly impressive. The unintuitive forward or back push on the shift buttons sounds too close to the old Tiptronic method, which is really clunky in my view.

Yeah, I believe that stick is still the way to go for driving fun, but I thought it was pretty well agreed that proper DSG boxes (whether VW or Porsche) were better in every way, on or off track. It seems like they would give you every bit as much control on the track as a stick (switched into manual mode of course) but much much faster.

Is the PDK going into the new GT3 also? If so, can't wait for those numbers (also should have a power jump with direct-injection like the rest of the 911 line).

66 lbs is due to the PDK, and most of the rest is due to them comparing a 05 Coupe vs. 09 Cab. 997.5 only gained a few pounds over the 997 otherwise.

One thing people are forgetting is the option of a LSD with the PDK - an option previously unavailable on American soil unless you stepped up to a GT3.

Personally, a Cayman S with the PDK and LSD sounds pretty damn close to a perfect daily driver as I expect it will get 28 mpg and run 13 second quarter miles.

I can think of one that will go 0-60 in the 3's (very high 3's) with only 240 hp and some hoosiers on a pro solo launch.
