I had an '01 with plastic window a few years back. It was a drag to clean. Plastic windows can become hazy, wrinkled, creased, torn, etc. With glass, easy to clean with no worries about those. The plastic window is larger and provides better view but it folds along with the top. Obviously, glass can't fold, so they made it smaller so to fold on top and below the glass. Glass is generally preferred.

yea, the plastic will fade and can get fold lines over time... plus you dont get a rear defroster with the plastic, but you do with glass... glass is on '02 and up...

only benefit of plastic is that its a little bigger... meaning you get a little more rear visibility than glass... i dont think its a problem, blind spot visibility is the same...

you do pay for that glass, though. Prices on cars jump sharply with the 02 model.

I suspect Mazda's inclusion of the glass window on the second gen Miata really upstaged Honda, Porsche and BMW and effectively forced all of them to include glass windows on future models. Really, if the Miata can do it the more expensive cars shouldn't not have glass.
