Porsche 918 Spyder announced for preorder

It looks about as unchanged from the concept as possible -- bodywork, hybrid drivetrain (and power specs), everything. Pretty much looks like they switched from cameras to regular side mirrors and moved the exhaust location to a more sensible place than the side outlets.
To me this feels like Porsche's new 959 -- try out a load of new technologies that they think could work eventually in mainstream cars, do both race and road car versions, make it bonkers fast. I have to wonder if the selling price actually covers their build costs.
I'm curious how the driving dynamics of the hybrid drivetrain will feel. I've always thought that electric drive could offer some real advantages in a sports car, but nobody has really pushed that angle of it yet. Porsche seems to believe they have a future in purist sports cars with hybrid drivetrains, so they must have some degree of confidence.

So yeah, it's a Porsche.
The CGT was (and is) an amazing machine, but I bet this is going to be a much better car to own. Everything I read about the CGT suggested that it was an all-out track car that they barely managed to civilize into a road car. This seems to be more like what Porsche thinks their road cars will be like in 10 years, turned up to 11. But it will be interesting once the proper reviews start rolling in.

Do like, but priced at 2X the market price of a used CGT?

no kidding, I don't think my enjoyment would be anywhere near proportional to the price.

Look at that Top Gear comparo of the 959 and the F50 -- they totally concluded that the 959 was the better everyday car!
