Hey guys, my g/f drives a pt cruiser 01 which has 110,000k miles. Surprisingly, this car has not given her any problems at all. But of course, within the last 3 weeks, the car has been acting up.

I thought it was first the alternator but the battery doesn't drain. What happens is the car unexpectedly would just shut off as she is slowing down and putting the car on neutral or within the last week, can shut off while she is stopped.

While she is moving, the car does not turn off at all.

She has had some issues with the fuel and bad gas from what I've seen in the past with the car stuttering and acting up when the fuel is low and the gas she put in was from cheveron for some reason. But this has been resolved by switching to shell so I don't think one has to do with the other.

Has anyone ever experienced this type of issue with their car. She has no check engine light. Normally, when this happens, she is able to just turn the car right back on. Today she told me, it took her 3 attempts to turn it back one time it shut off on her. She said it would turn on for a second, and then just shut off. I told her to leave her foot on the clutch longer than normal when turning on the car and then finally it stayed on.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does it shut off or sputter and stop the motor? If its the latter it sounds like a fuel problem, pump, regulator, filter...

This guy had a similar problem, with a resolution, somewhere in his blog.

 

Doesn't sputter.. Just turns off and the radio does stay on when it does. I checked the battery terminal yesterday and reset the ecu. She reported it didnt happen last night after I did that and today in the morning. Before I did this, it was happening more frequent for some reason..

 

Use this opportunity to convince her to get rid of it. I would be embarassed to ride in a PT Cruiser
