Default R32 GTR Thread

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my next car with you guys, it's a 1989 R32 GTR with 103k km and no mods other than a Mine's Exhaust. This way I get to experience modifying the car to my liking.
I owned an R31 GTS Autech before this car and missed having something unique. Going from an R31 to a 32 is a huge difference in refinement and power, however, the "Skyline-ness" is present in both cars.

Plans so far are to learn the car's capabilities and where it's lacking. It's such a joy to drive as it's refined and feels tight even after 25 years. There are hardly any clunks and road noise is minimal. The power is smooth and addicting, however, the car does feel restricted and leaves you feeling like it wants more. Suspension is on the stiff side but it's compliant on bad Mississippi roads and the large sidewalls help soak up cracks and bumps. Brakes are a little squishy but grab fairly well. Steering feedback is great and loads up nicely in corners, and one of the best characteristics of this car is the way it digs out of turns as the AWD shifts power. It's not something I'm used to and feeling the boost kick and and AWD dig out of low speed corners is addicting.

All in all, I'm impressed the build quality of the car and how well mannered it is on US roads. It has the makings of a great GT car and the pedigree of a racing car. I can see why they were so dominant in racing.

Hope you enjoy the pictures:

A few friends have R32 GTRs, it's starting to become the most popular "unique" car within the car community.
And as neat as the R32 is for the nostalgia, they aren't particularly good looking, IMO.

Now, R34, yes yes yes yes yes.

That is sexy and plays to my kid-playing-gran-turismo-inner-ricer-so-jdm. unf.
Can't wait when people start bringing those over in droves, like how people are flocking to the R32 bandwagon.

I'd like to own an R33 and then a 34 someday as well, but seeing as how the 34's are already selling for 35k+ in Japan, I don't even want to know how much they'll be when they make it down here. To be honest, I wasn't a big fan of the R32 as well, but the bulging front fenders and rear box flares add the right amount of lines to the car. It's still not pretty like an FD, but it has its appeal.

I had the pleasure of driving an R32 and S15 Silvia back in 2002. I loved the rawness of the R32, but the S15, being much newer, was well refined. I'd love to own a R32 some day.

R32 is by all accounts a great car to drive. Add some modern wheels and drive it.

Aren't the R32s like 3,200 lbs? Do I remember that right?

I saw one at a local community college not too long ago and it was surprisingly smaller than I thought it would be, which I liked.

Agreed! Every time I think TE37's are played out on an R32 GTR, I find a picture of one and it looks just so right. The factory wheels are comical, they're "produced with spartan air"

Second to last picture in the first post reminds me of an 80's/90's Mustang F-Body, especially in LX 5.0 trim.
