Obviously the track running costs for any car with 600+ horsepower are going to be huge. But compared to OTHER 600+ horsepower supercars the track running costs of a Viper are probably the best, or close to it.

Every Gen 5 is a hardtop, unless you go down the aftermarket medusa route.

The Vette is more brute force compared to the viper. The Viper needs to be finessed or the black flags will be out in force. Lol. Whenever people ask me to compare the Viper to the S2, I simply say the Viper is a S2000, but on steroids.

It's a shame that the Gen 5 is clumped into the raw beast it was in the past generations of the car. The other issue is, people have no eyeball time with them. Minus the fancy hi end or exotic car meets, it's super rare to see one rolling down the road. ive only seen 3 Gen 5's in the wild. The first time I saw one, my wife and I said, that's a car we want to own one day.

Tires are not cheap. Brakes are not cheap as well.

Other than brakes and tires, there's not much to do. A set of tires run around 1600. Brakes depend on what your set up is. There are w lot of different brake options for the Viper.

People dump 10-20k to get the S set up for a track. Honestly, at the end of the day, it evens out if you consider the aftermarket parts involved.

I mean it depends what you want. If you're tracking a stock S2000 all you need are a set of track pads. That's all I needed. $450. Likewise that's all a Viper needs as well.

$1600 isn't bad for a set of tires. A set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports (for the 987) is around $1200 installed.

The Viper is too unrefined to be a big seller, unfortunately. Today's sports cars that sell well are like luxury cars compared to the comparably old-school Viper driving experience.

I imagine the v10 with cafe standards etc probably killing it off, since it's loosely based on the truck motors. Shame. I'd love me one.
Incorrect. Basically everything you said is wrong other than you love it.
LOL!!! This is Dodge/Chrysler not GM where the 5.3L block in my GMC Sierra is very closely related to the LSx blocks.

As for the original content, yes very sad to see it go. Such a shame too. They come back to ALMS and total kill it, and following their win, kill the racing program followed by killing the car... wtf?!?!

And yes, would much rather have a viper over a corvette. BUT... I'm too big of a pussy to actually track that kind of power and torque (viper or corvette), which is why I'm still in my torqueless s2k wonder...

And for the record I did say loosely based, but far from being absolutely wrong. And I further stand with my cafe standards having something to do with it as well.

This is true across the sports car range.

I agree... most people spending $100k on a car want the leather dash, semi plush ride, etc.... and they are mostly fat old people who can probably not get in or out of a viper very easily. I love how the viper is sort of a bang for the buck kinda car and pretty rare.

The gen V viper is one of the very few cars on my tiny list that I can see myself replacing the c6z with...NA big displacement motor, RWD, low center of gravity, 3 pedals...they don't make 'em like that anymore

My only complaint is how quiet the exhaust note is in stock form, at least from outside the car. My c6z has stock exhaust and in the canyons following a gen V viper I can't hear the Viper at all in front of me even in tunnels lolz
