yeh they were def over engineered. I was shopping for one next to the s2k but....after reading the rx-7 forums and tlaking to rx 7 owners the rx-7 as a DD was not the car for me. Engine blown was so common and me in grad school can't afford having a car getting fixed and spenind $$$$$ on a new engine turbos etc. Def a sunday car. Every car for sale ha dad a blown motor it was crazy. I wish they came out with a more reliable engine. I was always wondering why you never see them on the roads becaseu they're getting fixed nice cars though!

At least our front ends look similar

RX7 is the hottest looking car ever to come out of Japan.

hell yea. my fd isn't running right now, but everyday i walk downstairs and still can't get over how great that car looks.

the steering sucks compared to the s2000 though. like somebody said, the steering wheel is huge, feels like you're driving a bus. the s2000's steering is awesome. it's roomier than the s2000. quality wise, mazda can't compete with honda. but if you want a looker the fd is hard to beat, not to mention it's pretty fast. the thing is a money pitt. u will end up spending the same amount as a s2000.

btw 105k miles - original motor/turbos

It's such a shame that a car like the FD RX-7 has a mortal flaw like that. It is my absolute favorite Japanese GT car from the 90s, and it looks badass even today. It's a treat to see one every now and then because nice running examples are so rare.

Are there any reliable conventional engines out there that can be swapped into an empty FD bay? Of course...doing so would probably screw with the driving dynamics a bit...
The common swap is the LS1

- FDs are my favorite looking cars, but the "reliablity" isn't good enough for me...
- if I was a millionare I definently would have one...

I have owned 2 Rx7s and they are a little roomier than the s2000. I have a touring model which has all the leather, acoustic junk and I cant believe the difference it feels than in my R1. The touring has more headroom than the s2000, but it feels like I can barely move around in there. My R1 had a lot of room and felt very comfortable. I could move around in there and had a lot of head room as well.

here is my r1

Here is my touring

The s2000 feels relatively faster than my touring as of now and I am pretty sure it will take my rx7 no problem. (rx7 only boosting 4psi). It feels a lot more refined in corners. Steering was very flickable. My r1 felt a lot faster and was boosting a perfect 10-8-10. these cars are number 1 garage queens yea!!! I am at 74k original miles at the moment and having boost issues.

as for cornering, there are a reason these 12 year old cars are still placed in SuperStock...and not any class lower.
