RX-8, good price, but no matter how cheap it is, I would never set my foot on it. well, not gonna buy it unless the oil seal problem is done. but, will it ever be done?

I called my local Mazda dealership threatening to buy an RX8, but asked first that they find out the curb weight of the production model. I got a call back about an hour later, and this is what they told me:

Automatic: 3051 lbs
6spd: 3011 lbs

They said that this is only provisional for now, and that the 6spd weight was that of a moderately equipped RX8. I was hoping for 2900, but then again, we don't know if the 3011 is the sport model with a full tank of gas and a driver....

That funny that they told you 3011 lbs.
Most car mags stated they were told by Mazda during the test drives that the weight was going to be JUST UNDER 3000 lbs. To me it looks like they haven't announced an official weight yet b/c they are trying to find a place to shave off those last 12 lbs
Maybe different spare/jack?

Anywhere else they could lose 15-20 this close to production?

i think it's a really nice 4 passenger sports car! i've seated inside the car in the LA autoshow and the space in the rear seat isn't that bad at all (compare w/ other 2+2 sports car) i'm sure the evil dealers will at least have you to pay extra $5k markup. when my sis was buying a yellow protege5 they were $3k over sticker!! she ended up buying a red one, which looks better than the yellow one IMO

A lightweight battery could do it, but if they upset the advertised 50/50 weight distribution, they will never live it down!

Check out Mazda's website...IIRC the spare tire is optional! That would do it!

Just wanted to point out that the 6-speed model comes standard with 18" rims, z-rated rubber, larger brakes, LSD, the 250 HP engine, and the sport suspension for $26680.

I noticed this too, but then the one that I read was sort of a loose comparison to the RX7 which is lame.

I'm on the edge of my seat here, like many of you.

The car looks great but I'll never get past the rotary engine.
