The 1 series is not a good looking car (the 3 is less ugly), few newer BMWs are attractive but our brains make us think they are because they are great for drivers (maintenance costs aside, nothing rolls like a BMW) and they carry some prestige. If you took away the grill and the BMW emblems and stuck a Kia badge on it then just looked at it, it would be ugly. But it is a testament to the engineering and marketing of the company to make such plain cars desired and percieved to ge great looking (just like a WRX STI or Panamera). The bottom line is the same as a woman, if you like being inside it (her) then that is all that matters. Even ugly chicks find men.
