Nice purchase!

I test drove a base Cayman back to back with my AP2 and I couldn't justify the price increase for roughly equal performance. I've got my eye on used Cayman Ss...but they're not within my price range yet

 

Dom, a proper sports car should have a proper exhaust. The flat 6 certainly has a distinct raspy sound. I flippin' love it

Wolf, if I didn't have to compromise with the wife, I would most likely still be in a S2000. The Cayman S was around 9k more CPO. The Porsche experience is also a factor when considering a Cayman. The question is...is it worth it to you.

 

Yeah its way worth it, its not buying a cayman s that is the hard part. Anyone can a buy a cayman s used for a decent price but the real thing here is can you afford to keep it on the road??????

 

That is why a CPO vehicle was a necessary condition. I think, with a little strategy, a Porsche is more feasible than many peope realize. The brand was off of our radar two weeks ago.

 

well, I have limited data points (1, ha) but my old boss bought a used (uncertified) Cayenne S recently.
He ran into some standard maintenance items early, and 1 other issue (some sort of cooling pump or something...I didn't get a good description because he's not into it).
The brakes were like $1,800 bucks (I believe that is pads+rotors), the pump thing was like $2,500.
Both seem right around what you would pay for a benz, bmw, audi on a performance car out of warranty...
The brakes I'm certain could be done for 1/2 of that if he was willing to do them himself.
Porsches are supposed to be among the most reliable euro brands.

indeed. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a porsche new or CPO...if you're worried you can always shell out a few G's for an extended warranty.

 

^ Could easily have been a water pump. I had to have it replaced on my Cayenne in 2006, under warranty though, and was told they were replacing more than just mine. I agree that Porsche has become a very reliable brand, but it's still good that the OP has the CPO warranty.

 

I forgot, maybe 15K for the rears? I sold it w/ mileage in the high teens IIRC, and hadn't replaced the fronts. It seemed pretty easy on tire wear vs. other performance cars.

 

remember to get a short shifter if you don't already have it.
It makes a hell of a difference.

I just bought a 07 Cayman S CPO, the shifter feel sucks, the steering wheel is too big, the seat sucks lol <-- I miss my s2000
but then again, this is on a whole different level and I can't expect it to feel cheap lol
