S2k hate because some people are just narrowminded
And also, probably S2k hate because S2k owners hates on their cars. It's a never ending cycle. I don't see why it's okay for s2000 owners to complain about hate from other car groups when they themselves are extremely arrogant about themselves, and vice versa.

Just kidding. We're all car enthusiasts no doubt.
ive had 3 rx7's, 2 2nd gen's and a third gen (FC, and FD respectively). they can be made reliable but not with out care. the reason i got the s2000 is because i can turn it on and go about what i need to do and not worrying about overheating, nearest gas station, etc... and still jump on the trhottle. nor any boost problems or transition problems( any fd owner knows what i mean) running around town in rx7 will drink fuel very quick but not the S. also the even the latest FD (MY95) is over 10yrs old and things will break and wear and some may not be able to replaced.
as far as speed, i think we know the rotary will relatively even for a stock S, but when modded the S is a far cry from tru rotary bliss. i've had two rebuild on the 3 rx7's i owned. one due to age/miles, other due to abuse. the rotary is powerful but not too too strong. eveytime im at a meet the most popular asked question is how many rebuilds or something along those lines. its something you have to get used to but i hated $4,000 rebuilds. kinda trading torque for reliabilty maybe.
but you have to give hats off for the look of the RX7 still looks modern despite its age compared to other cars of the early 90's.
