mpg reflect only one factor of cost in a vehicle. cost of maintenence, insurance, and depreication together with mpg will determine your overall cost per mile of operating a certain vehicle. in other words, just because car B gives better mpg than car A doesn't necessarily mean the overall cost of operation of car B will be less than car A.

What the heck does that mean? 30 mph on a freeway? Unless it's jammed and then you wouldn't achieve that kind of mileage. But I still don't know what 65~30mph means.

Btw, ~ is usually used to represent "approximately".
Meant to say 65~70mph.

i've never gotten close to 30mpg. but i'm sure u CAN. i also prefer not to 'lug' the engine. i like to keep my revs 3.5-4k for the most part in any gear. the positive of a few mpg extra doesnt outweight the negatives imo.
Wait a minute! What negative effects with staying in 6th gear (overdrive) at 70mph? Don't tell me you only stay in 5th.

I have no idea what kind of mileage my car gets. I just fill it up when the little, orange light comes on. But, I do know that I would have no interest in driving my S2000 "heavily on the freeway." WAY too damn loud for that. 1.5 hours or so is tops for me, I think. Any more, and I have to take the FX. I'm sure I've been no help to this discussion...

You people getting 30MPG OFTEN, might as well swap for a Civic Hybrid.

I drive my S pretty much only in the city. While hardly driving @ high revs, I only get 20-22 mph. If I decide to go vtec a few times on the tank + city driving, I avg 18-19. I don't know how you guys do it.

Why?? Where's the evidence that a steady cruise at 2-3000rpms is bad?

my friend in his 2004 SMG 330CI averages about 350 per tank. he refuels when about 1/4th of a tank is left.

Some of these numbers sound too high. Isn't 32 mpg higher than what Honda even said we should get? I have NEVER gotten anywhere above 24/25 mpg on my AP2 or AP1. I honestly could care less about this factor though, because I have a sports car and not an economy car. Back to the OP- I bet the 330 gets better mileage.

just to expand on that more, he can usually cruise at 6th going 65ish-70 at 1.5-2k rpm. after all, his power band is quite small compared to the likes of you monster revvers. his is at around 6.2k. not to mention its a I-6.
