Default S2000 vs. Crossfire SRT6

Good day all,

I've been wanting to buy an S2k for quite some time and just recently realized that the Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 is extremely rare and attractive looking. I was wondering if S2ki could weigh in on my debate.. by listing pros and cons of each vehicle. What I've compiled so far:

S2000
Pros
-Honda, so inherently more reliable at higher mileage
-more mod options

Cons
-slightly more expensive
-soft top replacement expense

Crossfire SRT6
Pros
-Stock supercharged at 330hp
-cheaper

Cons
-Automatic
-Headliner is known to sag

The list is small, can people help me add to this list?

First I must disagree, the crossfire is not pretty. The ass end on that car is ridonkulus. I would consider the convertible moderately better looking. Even then, the front end has the dated styling of 1990's Chrysler Sebring.

What is the reliability and repair costs for the Xfire? It is a Mercedes SLK under the skin, after all.

Did the SRT's ever get released with a convertible and stick shift?

I guess they did release a convertible version, and I'm just not a fan overall of soft tops. So I could either buy an s2k and purchase an aftermarket fastback, or a Crossfire stock hardtop. I kind of like the idea of driving a car that was made on the same line as Mercedes vehicles without the high cost of everything. Reliability and repair from what I've seen is realtively painless, but nothing compares to Honda maintenance.

I doubt you'll get much support for the purchase of a Crossfire here. Overall it doesn't seem like a bad car but to me it just doesn't compare to an S2000, which I think is better in just about every way.

Clarkson's thought of the Crossfire:

For visual representation:
Spoiler

the ONLY thing the Cross SRT6 has going for it is the engine and maybe it's rarity.

Bleh, Chrysler.

I find the Crossfire to be hideous looking. The fact that it is a Chrysler just makes it that much worse.

If you're considering the Crossfire, why not the Solstice or Sky Redline, or even the Ford Thunderbird with a V8?

Not even in the same league. Yes. A saturn Sky or Pontiac Solstice would be a better choice than a crossfire.

Looks are subjective, and a Crossfire SRT is rare, but I'm not sure that makes it desirable. Imo cars like the Crossfire come from a dark time at Chrysler where everything was "value engineered" and it shows in little things, like the SRT's shift lever, for example.

On the other hand, the S2000 was a project of an engineer that had the freedom to build what he wanted and was created during Honda's peek period in the 90s, and it really stands out as a show-off piece.

If you want a coupe and one that is rare, you should try for a Solstice GXP coupe - hard top, you can get a manual transmission, and rare. Yes, it has its own engineering issues, but its a better effort than the SRT if you ask me.

^^Or a Saturn Sky Redline. Those are beautiful little cars.
