Scorpion Helmets...
I have a 700 (my loaner and passenger helmet) and a 1000.
The exo700 on sale could cost under 100 and it is a pretty sweet helmet and nice looking for the price. I Know this helmet works because I lent it to my friend and one time he fell off and face planted the concrete. He walked away and the helmet got messed up but it did what it was supposed to do. My only issue with this helmet is the faceshield doesn't seal very well. If I turn my head at highspeeds air comes in. The helmet is also much louder than the 1000
The 1000 has lots of useful bells and whistles but not worth over 200-250 imo. I don't like how the helmet is so heavy as a consequence of all the features. The visor is very useful an I like this as a touring helmet.
The hjc I like because of the visibility. I think it has the best peripheral vision of the helmets I have tried. Don't actually own an hjc but I may pick one up to replace my loaner/passenger helmet

IMO, a good track day helmet is lightweight, has a big eye port, has a shape that doesn't get moved around easily by wind, good aero in the chinbar (or at least a spoiler or curtain like shoei/arai), and a liner that doesn't hold moisture for too long (putting a lid on with a cold wet interior is gross if you've never been fortunate enough to do it).
Most branded helmets meet DOT/Snell Standards, so spending more never buys you more safety.
I own 2 Arai RX7's and 1 Shoei X-11. At full retail their are ridiculously expensive, but I hunted for a good deal and I'm happy with them. The one thing I like most about the Arais and Shoei's is the fit. They offer 3 shell sizes so when I wear a small it's the right shape. The lid isn't really a Medium with bulkier internals to make it fit (Another reason they are usually lighter) For example when I wear a KBC or HJC Small the helmet acutally fits properly (compresses my cheeks a little) - but I can actually put my hand between the chinbar and my face. So it fits properly but is still too big.
The Shark RS2's are are clearance at most places around the price of the Scorpion EX0-1000. The Outer Shell is Kevlar instead of the fiber glass or fiberglass/carbon shells. It's one of the lightest out there, good venting and the interior is competes with the big 2. For me I'd hunt for a good deal on a premium helmet vs. buying some others.
There's nothing wrong with the Scorpion Helmets - I'd rather have one than an HJC/Icon. THe EXO-700 is a better trackday helmet than the higher end EXO-1000 since it's quite a bit lighter and doesn't have useless features for a track day.

I use an EXO-1000 when riding my streetbike. They are normally pretty expensive, but can be had very cheaply when Scorpion comes out with a new color scheme. I paid full price for one of my Scorpion EXO-1000's which was about $360. Second time around, I found a deal online for $180 shipped brand new. Helmet is heavy, but has allot of nice features and safety built-in.

I love my EXO-1000 so much that when the cat knocked mine to the floor and it broke (tile) I bought another. I tried the other exo's but love the fit of the 1000...
I own 2 Arai rx7 corsairs, and the next helmet I buy will be another Arai. I've owned Foxs, Thors, Nolans, Fulmars, and I've worn Scorpions, Icons, And a lot of others Arai wins hands down for everything, Fit,comfort, part availability, the view is a little narrow but that's not really a problem, wait for close outs I've never paid more then 400$
I have the EXO1000.. Probably the best fitting helmet I've used to date. Don't know how it'd feel inside of my S, but LOVE it on my bike. I've tried the 400 series and it felt cheap.. Haven't treid the 700 series yet though. But it did look a lot better than the 400 series. I have liked my Scorpion's fit better than my aria and shoei. The fit, wind noise, etc. Just love it..
OH, and let me tell you, my original 1000 felll (damn cat) and busted the windshield quick release mounting system.. Contacted Scorpion and they just sent me replacement parts. (although ended up having more issues and had to trash the helmet, but I ended up in another 1000l) This was even after telling them I bought the helmet second hand, so I didn't know when the original purchase date was. AND the guy had rushed the shipping just so I could get the parts in before I went to bike week in Daytona last year. (Was talking to him the week of) So just saying how great their customer service was.

I have a Scorpion EXO and I love it, great venting. It is a big and heavy helmet, but worth it for the protection and comfort it provides. I have a pretty strong neck so it's not an issue, but if you're a pretty skinny/weak guy, maybe an Arai would be better.
