Should I pull the trigger

I have to say "gutless" is a relative term. The si has 200hp and weighs maybe 3000 lbs. For the past two years I've been driving a v6 grand Cherokee that has 207 hp and weighs almost 5000lbs. This civic is going to feel like a rocket.

What are you even talking about?
I own both an Si and S2ooo and I can say unequivocally that the Si can hang with an S2000. Its pretty much 8/10s of an S2000 in the straights and almost a straight up fight in the twisties. Perhaps your driving ability is gutless.
having driven both, i think the Si is at most 6/10 on the S as far as acceleration in the power band (vtec). at the low end, though, they feel exactly the same. stock for stock, of course.

rx-8, rev all the way up there and absolutely feels no power.
Drove my friend 09' RX8 over the weekend for over and hour. This is just my opinion comparing to the S2k. Speaking strictly performance, the RX8 rev last all day long, but felt very flat throughout the rev range. By no mean the S2k is a torque monster, but our mid and top end especially once Vtec engaged there's a noticeable strong pull on the engine. The RX8 suspension is too soft for my taste, while this can be great for some of us. I though the S2k is gutless on torque, but its so much better when comparing it to RX8. Rev range is 9K, but doesn't feel like the wankles speed up fast enough for me. It just felt like a complete smooth linear power band without the feeling of torque kicking in anytime. Look, the s2k doesn't have a lot of torques, but the RX8 make the S2k feel very well.....torquie.The RX8 is not a bad car, just drive one and you'll see what I mean. Soft suspension isn't always a bad thing. However, the lack of tq feel and long but slow rev make it mundane for me.
I bought the si yesterday and drove it about 300 miles home. It's a blast. It handles like a go cart, I couldn't help my self speeding through cloverleaves and the small amount of backroads on the trip home. I drove an RX8 for three days last week, and they are pretty similar, except I get 30+mpg in the civic and have more room and a better ride. I'm pretty happy with it so far. It's got a couple little rattles that I'll have to track down and kill, but nothing like the mazda had (granted, it was three years older with three times the miles). I think it will make a good little car.

just my impressions. ymmvIn motor terms, the S2000 F20C is built with more care and fancier parts. It sounds incredible and is a real gem. The K20Z3 in the Si has similar traits but a little more muted - 197HP/139TQ vs 240HP/156TQ. But what is nice is that you get about 80% of that torque from 2000 rpm and above, which is nice for commuting.
In suspension terms, both cars have limits above my driving abilities. You feel more from the S2000 but at the edge of it's limits it can get a little nervous (I never drove the AP2). The Si rolls more initially but if you have confidence in it will continue to stick past what you though were it;s limits. The nose will push eventually but you can still rotate the car pretty easily, especially for a FWD car.
I did try out a Mini Cooper S and MazdaSpeed 3 before getting my Si sedan. The Cooper's stick was a little too rubbery and the MS3 had the worst clutch of all the cars I tested. Plus I've never had issues with the Hondas that I have owned.
Plus it allowed me to get the Yin/Yang Black/Silver thing going on my cars...
