I do wish it got better MPG's. I mean who would get this over a normal Civic?? Maybe to take up less garage space...lol

I know you are just kidding around. For the record I said I have not driven over 110 mph.
110mph is twice the old national speed limit. That's not considered solw by me.
Main point is I do not like to get a big speeding ticket or get thrown in jail.
I could work around a 99 mph speeding ticket but not a 149 mph ticket it's a world of difference.
So me saying I have never driven over 110 mph is not a big deal IMO. Cars can be driven quick enough to a speed and then it's time to back off.
I won't say it's ONLY Prius drivers that drive like mopes, I mean I could be behind a C6 corvette that accelerates 0-60 in 10-12 seconds.
My point is the Prius that would be considered going quick. In other words ALL Prius drivers drive slow and a lot of them drive slower than I would think is possible for a human to drive on a public road.
I would just put the Smart in that category meaning tractor tralors and Huge 40 ton dump trucks and Prius, if you are behind one you know it's not going to accelerate for shit.
I would not say I am a slow driver. Just I am not a reckless driver. I will drive 0-60 mph less than 6 seconds in my S2000, if merging on the HW I'll be at 90 in the time a Prius driver is at 40.
What bugs me about slow drivers is they will see you coming and still they will pull out in front of you and then drive sub-speed limit. I'm going speed limit +8 mph it's like a 16 mph difference. Dumb. Today a slow driver pulled out in front of me, if he had waited 8 seconds there was a a mile of clear road behind.

... 110 is definitly freakin fast... although you should know that you will ALWAYS be quoted as not having been over 100
i agree with everything you said... but what you said has to do with the driver and not the car... and that was my argument...
i think going 45 or 50 in a Smart is a much more dynamic experience than in a 500 HP car... the Smart is almost as heavy as an Elise... so from seeing how many there are in Europe, i rekon its pretty stable for most purposes... its built to Mercedes standards and meets all European and American regulations...
there's definitly other cars, especially hybrids, that have better fuel economy... the Smart is different... its not designed to be the next green revolution car or everybody's answer to rising gas prices... its going to be a niche car and an identity/image car... mainly for people who live in urban areas... i mean, Mercedes and Swatch are not known for catering to the masses... they cater to the niche...
the brabus is better, and i like their roadster's styling, but these strike me as coffee shop cars. they have appeal, but the price is so disproportionate to the features they bring to the market segment that i'd expect to only see them in droves among pop culture folks that like the image.
theyre slow, more impractical than an s2000, they aren't cheap, and the mpg, though good, is similar to the competition. so styling and image are the biggest features IMO.

I think whoever said it best, the Smart's biggest feature is it's small size which I don't think is needed in the US. Maybe in some cities but I don't know if there are small parking spaces specially reserved for Smart cars like they do have in Europe.
I see a Civic can be had and a Fit either for similar money.
It's nice if it has up-level features on a small car but cars like Mini etc. and now even the Civic you can get factory nav so many up-level features are finding their way into small 'cheap' cars.
I really think it's be better to see a high quality small car that didn't carry a $12K plus sticker. Meaning is a major company (not China or India) made a no-frills economy car for under $10K that was not a tin can. It would be interesting and even if it didn't get 40+ MPG the lower price would make up for it and make it more cost effective than a Prius ever could be.
I find the Prius interesting also but can't see the extra cost making up for the fuel savings so (to me) it's similar to pre-paying for gas. Or paying more for the car to pay less for gas with the same net money (about).
