Default Smart for Two

Nothing new, just wanted to say I saw one on the road it's very eye catching.

They have a review on Motorweek TV. I was a bit dissapointed with the fuel economy. It's rated at 34/40 cty/hw and MW got 34 MPG on their test.

Not great for just 70hp 68-TQ 1.0L 3-cylinder

I didn't know they have a 5-speed SMG-type tranny

0-60 is a lazy 12.2 sec and 1/4 mile 18.8 sec @ 76 mph But probably would be OK for most city driving.

Price was in the low-$11K to $16,500K for the vert.

I bet it'd be fun in part due to weight of just 1808 lbs and RWD. (edit)

I still think a Honda Fit is a better choice for cool factor, fuel eco., practicality and price.

Metro yes, interstate no. I read in one of the rags that a guy did 500 miles in one and said it wasnt that bad.

I did 800 miles in one week during a test of one and it is surprisingly comfortable. I got just over 40 mpg during my freeway commute. Cool little car, everyone freaks out when they see you driving in one. I started looking for routes that didnt have stop signs so that I would not have to answer questions about it all the time.

I don't see how it can get 40mpg hwy.
I had a Civic hx 15 years ago and it got 50+mpg hwy. that car was 2000lbs and around 80hp. and it takes also 12sec 0-60.
how can something 15 years newer be worse??

It's aerodynamics, but that's no excuse. The taller windshield is a derivative of safety improvements your old civic didn't need to succumb to. I'm with you though, it takes an expensive civic hybrid just to match the gas mileage of an 80's model bottom of the line civic.

I saw several of these cars on a truck today actually. I rode my zx6r from Houston to Austin today and passed up a large trailer carrying several of them. I saw blue, yellow, and black colors. They look pretty goofy and all I can say is if you want good gas mileage and are willing to make the sacrifices of driving those little things get a damn motorcycle.

0-60 faster than you even want to go.
0-130 in about 10 seconds.
32mpg city, 45mpg highway. GG no rematch.

It's more about the design & the shape of the car, not economy.
Like others said, Fit would be a better choice since it gets similar MPG and has lot more room than the Smart.
I'd love to drive one, but not on the freeway.
Too dangerous, IMO.

My wife loves these cars, and wants one badly. Since we regularly drive 350 miles to/from northern WI in all weather, I keep telling her that we couldn't make a WORSE choice for a third vehicle (we've got a Liberty and an S2000 now.) I commute 4 miles, she commutes 19. Unless it was a fourth car (2 DDs, S2000, Smart,) it would be absolutely idiotic. We've already got one impractical stupid car (S2000) we don't need another.
