I just saw a commercial for it with Ludacris. Who are they marketing this car to?

That's a good question. Maybe to a young, white suburban audience whom, as yet, haven't shown up to buy? Nothing like some "street cred".

[QUOTE=jimbogxp,Feb 12 2006, 11:04 PM]I plan on buying a Solstice GXP, and I never wanted a Vette
I think the Solstice GXP with it's 260 ft-lbs of torque meets my needs and my wallet.

The data In the WSJ article were just a summary based on a pretty small sample. Still, the demograhics don't look young. So far it looks like it's stealing more sales from Buick than Miata.

I think the Miata has always attracted young and single people, men and women, who can use the the car as a daily driver. So far the Solstice doesn't appear to making a dent in that market. It will be interesting to see who is buying after the initial excitement wears off.
Not making a dent? are you nuts? Did you not read your original post before you posted? Average lot time is 15 days. Most stealerships can't even get them onto the lot before they sell. They sold 8k units in 5 months? pretty damn good for what is supposed to be a low volume sales vehicle.

I bet the only reason that the average lot time is 15 days is because some stealership is marking them up 10k.

The solitice will do just fine. And yes it WILL steal sales from the miata. Don't kid yourself into believing otherwise.

Let me think about that for a se... NO!

There's just so many convertibles which are more interesting.

But maybe as a tenth, or an eleventh car *shrug*

Who is buying them you ask? People that can't afford a S2000 and too stupid to know that the new MX-5 (Miata) is a much better car.

After driving the MX-5, I think it is debateable that it is a much better car. The interior is kind of crappy for Mazda. I love the interior of the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6. The Mx-5 stinks. Acceleration is lackluster (as it is with the soltice) and styling is still "chick car"...

Wow, what great buying criteria. So you would buy a POS Ford or Renault because they HAVE won.
But you have no interest in a Corvette, Porsche, Spyker, Aerial (sp?), Radical etc.
We also have to leave out all Toyotas, VW, and Audis.

Makes a lot of sense to me

Porsche engines won the F1 championship in 84 and 85 under the name TAG Turbos and Audi won many a grand prix back when they were still called Auto Union.
