It'd be great if some one would step up to the plate and try to go the distance challenging Mazda's MX5. The Miata/MX5 is always a great little bargain sports car and they (enthusiasts and Mazda alike) are always bragging on the number of them sold since being intro'd in '89, but one reason that they have sold so many is because more often than not it's the only car in it's segment.

It was the first car to offer an automated manual for that price point... Now VW has flooded the market with its DSG.

That's true but the Toyota version realy wasn't very good. It works but it's a slow shifting tranny.

Did any of you ever drive the Volkswagen Automatic Stickshift? Put you hand on the shifter and the car went into neutral (clutch in mode). They offered this in the late 60's and early 70's. Too far off topic...
