Thanks for the review. CTS-V looks/is a beast, but $72k is a whole lot of coin for what it is.

And why bash on the OP's S5. Honestly, people who drive CTS-V's and S5's in the first place can afford to change cars when the warranty runs out anyway. The S5's potential out-of-warranty costs are a moot point, except for the next owner's willingness to take on the huge risk to try to save some coin. (And this is coming from someone who only buys used cars.)

There's a CTS-V performance lab track session that's making it's way across country. Here's a link:

Somehow I got an email invitation about a month ago - almost thought it was spam email and was about to delete it - but it turns out it's an invitation to test drive the CTS-V at the various tracks across country. It was held at the Monticello track last weekend. Monticello is 2 hours from NYC. I had a great time - at the last minute I even got my wife into the signup. It's a 1/2 day track session driving 3 different types of CTS, 1 regular CTS and 2 CTS V. The track session was about 15 mins follow my two driving sessions, 1 to test accelation/braking/slalom and another to test it's emergency braking avoidance.

Free food and free track session - tough to beat.

My impression of the CTS V ? It's a nice ride but coming from the S2K it's almost the antithesis of the S2K, heavy and gadgety, not my cup of tea.

As true as that is, the S5 will be so much more desirable once they finally cave and put the V6T in there.

Great review on the CTS coupe, that rear is really really ugly, but the rest of the car works. And of course you can dispute that power train.

The S5 will get the SC V6 in 2012. The jury is out on S5 forums on this decision as it's been documented by members that the V6 T doesn't get notably better MPG than the FSI 4.2 V8 and has a hairdryer exhaust note.

It will definitely be more tunable, but S5 owners aren't too much into tuning.

Try again chief. No one is comparing the CTS-V to an S2000 and it HARDLY compares to a similar vintage BMW E46.

In fact the old CTS has to have one of the WORST interiors EVER for a 'luxury/sports luxury' car.

I think the E46 interior is better that the old CTS. The old CTS materials weren't bad but the styling was too monochromatic. I wouldn't claim that it was bad but it was a half step or so behind the class the same was the first G35s were behind the class. BTW, I rather liked the SAAB style vents but they looked better in the SAAB.

The AC must be great. Those vents are looking a bit nipply.
