If your mom is getting it, then its fine. I think its a decent car. Not a sports car by any means, but as a zippy grocery getter that looks better than an srt-4, I think its pretty good buy...except for the MPG issue which I never noticed before.

Have you looked at the Mazda3s? Those are pretty sweet deals right there (heated seats, navi, xenon, looks, interior etc.)...or is your mom specificaly looking for a coupe type car?

Mad torque steer madness?

Did the dark color hide the hideous lines of that car? (I loved the Eclipses from two gens ago btw).

At 27K, I'd think along the lines of an RX-8 too (especially if you're already going for shitty gas mileage!). Maybe a slightly used G35 would fit the bill?

I wouldn't buy any Mitsubishi now except probably Evo. For $27k, your mom could have a G35 sedan already, look into newspaper and sometimes the dealer have some advertisement of discount G35s and five or six to choose from. I highly recommend this car, not only because I own it, because it is a much more suitable car for a middle-aged person, very classy but yet fast and sporty, and I am sure it is more reliable than Eclipse. If not G35, TSX or Legact GT sedan are also excellent choices, depends on what kind of engine your mom aims for. If $31k is also okay, a barebone Lexus IS250 costs that much, although I don't know if you could find one on the dealer's lot. I have seen a 06 BMW 325i costing $29.5k, now this is arguably the best handling luxury sports sedan in the current market, can't be wrong if your mom buys this car. See, many choices in this price range that in my opinion are way way better than an Eclipse. But just my opinion.

ummm... its 27000 minus about 4000 in incentives, plus they are paying off her piece of crap 99 cougar v6. we drive the new g35, it was very nice, but they wouldn't pay off her car, and would only stick to msrp... i kinda agree with you guys..even at 24k theres probably still a nicer car, we were looking at the v6 accord coupe too, gas mileage is kinda a big deal too, and the accord still gets 29 on the highway event though its got some balls... and it uses regular gas. Theres too many damn options on buying a new car nowadays!!

Is buying used an option? For $25K there are plenty of reliable cool cars to choose from....C5, TT, S2000, etc.

wow, you guys hate this car!! haha, really its not bad once you drive one!!
Yea, that's because you only drove it a few minutes! The thing is slightly faster on the quarter mile than the RSX-S, but handles nowhere as good and gets Mustang-like mileage (15 mpg by C&D)!

When I test drove it, I thought it was hard to see the mirrors (the seating is like all the way back!). And for a car that's so wide and huge in the back, there's no room in the back seats! It felt like those "back seats" of the CRX.

Has your mom looked at the Civic Si? I feel the seats are more roomier and although it may not be as fast on the straight line, the LSD will be a nice advantage over the Eclipse's torque steer.

she doesnt want a civic and looks down on them, even if its an si, she just gives me the grudge. I hate women when it comes to picking cars, they are damn difficult, my girlfriend was the same way when she finally got her tsx (thanks to me talkign her into it) i think the civics are nice, but its just not for her, were going to look at the new 3 series Bimmer and a few more g35's tomorrow....maybe even the is250... the is350 would be nice, but she doesnt need all that!! haha
