Question Thinking of getting an EVO...

Hey guys... well I know I might get flamed for this depending on who writes back and what not but I have been seriously considering buying an evo ix.

The straw that broke the camels back i guess you could say is that I am moving very soon, and my car (stock) can hardly make it up every drive way, or not at all on 80% of the houses we have looked at.

That pretty much throws out my future plans of lowering my car and getting a new bumper or lip.

I guess it seems like a small issue but we do not live in a great city, nor can afford anything better so leaving my car out overnight would be out of the question (it would be gone in the morning), and not considering a house just because of the driveway is also out of the question.

I love how easy it is to get power out of the evos, and it would be great to have a car that is a little more practical (only car). And for some reason I think I would worry about it less (door dings etc.) because I think its not as good looking as the S in the first place.

Well, I guess all I want is opinions on the matter. I know the EVO is not as reliable as the S, but I dont mind spending the extra mile caring for the car at all, and will not be putting many miles on it, nor go too crazy with power mods like bigger turbo.

If I do decide to do this I guess the biggest deal would be the money difference. Being a little less reliable I assume it will not last as long, and will be wanting a car with lower miles <30k.

Well thats pretty much all the thought I have put into it so far. Any other things I should consider and think about?? Is the difference in $$ straight across much? I have an absolute mint '03 with ~32k miles... would that be a very far cry from an evo 9 with under 30k miles??

Well sorry for the LONNNG post, I appreciate all your comments good or bad and thanks for your time . Either way I will still be active here and attending all meets if possible since you guys are a great crowd

I like Evo IXs. There's a white one around town that I over.

Surely you can do something about your driveway, though.

Sounds like the curb-ramp would be gone in the morning too in the neighborhood he's describing...

What's that in the driveway? An Austin Healey?

unfortunately the house we are going to put an offer on... would not benefit from even that.. the driveway is very steep and very long. next time I should take a pic of it, even at the bottom with some sort of ramp it would still scrape when lowered, then at the top it would get high centered where it goes level...

Now im probably asking way way too much here but how does the evo compare performance and reliability wise to of course the s2k. I love my s2k and dont want to give up much...besides the room and of course being low.... (Edit: and top...ill have to give up my top of course)

does anyone know off hand how the two compare on like...

brakes...
steering feel...
steering ratio...
handling in general...
interior quality...
paint quality?...
RELIABILITY... (max miles without rebuild or anything replaced?)
insurance possibly...

Or anything else i cant think of? I know im being lazy not doing the research myself, and will most likely look it up a second time even with answers but still

reason we are moving is because of a much worse neighborhood... we are trying to get a place thats a little nicer. Less theft and such .

If you mod at all even an air filter drop in say bye bye to warranty. Mitsu dealers are getting more and more anal about this.

yeah i'm thinkin bout a evo too but you i bet you 95% of all evos have been raced and drove to crap
turbochargers are brutal on engines and thats something you have to consider espically after the warranty expires and theres alot more things that can go wrong with turbo/awd car compared to a NA car
but on the other hand if you find a good evo worth buying (i would recommend buyin from a mitsu dealership) and take care of it you should be fine mitsu is a good car company i drove my GT to hell and back and other than a few small stuff it was fine till i sold it but good luck with whatever you decide
