Thinking of getting an EVO...

Yeah, well, you can't really argue turbo lag vs NA when you're driving a car that hits at 6k.
As far as handling, it's just different. There's lots of body roll in the EVO, but with all the on-board computers helping with everything, it truly is easy to drive fast with 1 finger on the wheel. The steering is very light and nimble, but it does corner like a madman, and the acceleration out of corners is fantastic. The S2000 I think requires more concentration to drive quickly around corners... more driver imput. If you gave an S2000 comprable power to the EVO I think they should be about even around a track, but it will require more out of the driver of the S2000.
hmm makes sense... now the only thing that worries me... is reliability still... and I STILL cant post on evolutionm!
A quick search is coming up with people say "I just hit 60k miles! I never thought it would last this long!"
does this sound about right???
I would be keeping stock turbo with just basic mods to get a little more power out of her, but keep the reliability as high up there as possible...but 60k.... idk about that...

The 4G63 is older than the amount of time you've probably had your license. Don't worry about reliability so as long as you find a well kept one. There are a lot of idiots driving this car and as such, treat it like crap, bad mods and bad driving habits. That's why it has an unreliable stigma that is untrue.
my buddy here at work just bought an evo IX. he wanted it because he could pick parts up cheap as dirt because the engine has been around forever. also, we have winter here, so he wanted AWD.
he got the car and just bought a nice new greddy exhaust for $400. our nice exhausts cost $600 to $2500. in the next few weeks, he's going to get an ecu reflash to raise boost (conservatively) - $150. our reflash costs over $500 if im not mistaken. but overall he'll pick up 50whp or so for under a grand.
unlke the s2000, though, not long after the initial 50 or so whp gains, he's thinking he'll have to start upgrading parts bit by bit, though i don't know the parts, order, or whp before he needs to replace them. on the other hand, we might need a clutch and head after 400whp and want a diff depending on the driver, but our car doesn't need much except one big investment to get the plumbing and tuning.

Its funny, does anyone have anything negative to say about the evo ix??
With respect to reliability - If well taken care of, an Evo will last as long, if not longer than an S2000. The only thing that springs to mind that may be significantly different is tires - you'll probably need to replace all 4 of the Evo's tires (assuming you stay with OEM or comparable) at least as frequently as you'd replace the rear tires on the S2000.
It is an awesome car, and contary to belief there always seem to be good examples available used - not all of these cars were purchased by irresponsible kids.
Of all the cars on the market, the Evo IX MR is one of my all time favorites, regardless of price. The one thing that always keeps me from pulling the trigger when I (often) get that itch is side impact safety. I've seen crash pictures, and the thought of my wife or other family members getting t-boned in that car is hard to swallow. I'd be willing to take the chance if it were just me...

My 05 EVO 8 has been wonderfully reliable since the day I got it....never had any problems whatsoever with it, even with 10,000 miles on the clock at 500 AWHP.....
I keep on top of the maintenance and dont always beat on the car unless I need to lay the smackdown on someone....

How long do you think a well driven/well taken care of evo with only mods consisting of not getting a bigger turbo etc would last?
Honestly im looking for something thats going to atleast last me about 100k+ miles, as this is going to be my only car and I would like to keep it and enjoy driving it without having to worry about how many miles i put on it.
how long do you think something like that would last in terms of mileage?
