Whoa. Bad luck or Darwin...?

When you slam into the rear of a semi that is PARKED on the shoulder, that just is asking for it.

Hey......How do you lock up the tires with "anti-lock" braking?

my S2000 has ABS and even on the track it doesn't lock up unless I am sliding sideways (which i try to avoid if possible).
It's tough on a car as light as the S2k. But, ABS systems are by no means foolproof. you break really really hard very abruptly on a heavy car....lock! Also can be done by pumping the brakes.

regarding the guy, I wonder if he had a stroke or heart attack or something like that? He was pretty old.

oof, that was an anniversary Vette too.....

I am not sure we can ascertain he was driving intentionally on the shoulder. There are many accidents caused by cars being parked on the shoulder. Drivers from behind may think it is just another lane for whatever reasons (low visibility, no emergency flashers/road flares, driver distracted/not paying attention, etc.).
I know I have mistaken the shoulder for a lane at least once before, although I didn't actually get in there. I am sure it has happened to more members, it is not that hard to do especially when someone just pulls over and leaves their tailights on. Be careful out there.

I guess I'm just too old to understand that analysis.

I've seen another angle of that rear door on another board. That red splotch is, um, disturbing. Doesn't look like a composite body part to me. Looks... wet.
