Default Type "R"

Looks like the Civic type R will be here, in the showrooms by August!

It should be equipped the same way as the JDM version in terms of power at least.

I heard the same thing. In fact I've joined a CTR forum based in the UK and it's interesting listening to their encounter stories with S2Ks. The general concensus is that their CTRs are almost as quick as the S. Not sure how much of this is true or pure but I imagine the CTR must weigh more than the S. Any thoughts?

It weighs less than the S, actually.

CTR is almost as close as the S. It weighs quite a bit less and has 40hp less than us. It also has a "flashable" ECU that should respond a lot better to mods.

Oh yeah, IVTEC so midrange is a lot torquier.

Just checked the Honda Uk site - I stand corrected!

Hmmm... you think the CTR will give the S a run for it's money?

Some of the pics on the CTR owner forum look sweet!!!! The car's definitely got my vote.

The JDM version CTR has an extra 20hp compared to the 197 bhp we get in the UK. It doesn't have to pass our emission laws though, or yours I imagine, so I reckon you'll get the same version as us. The JDM car also runs on very high grade fuel. Glad to hear you're finally getting it though!

The car, as it was just explained to me, is not going for the same market share as the S.

It will give the S a run for it's money though. It will also respond better to mods.
I think on the track, the S will smoke it though.

Do you think the CTR will outperform the last gen ITR?

Well according to Hondas own blurb, the CTR is quicker than the last generation ITR. As for out-performing the S, I think in the dry, a well driven S should win fairly comfortably, In the wet though the CTR is a lot easier to chuck around which gives it a big advantage.

I bet WRX owners like to hang out with this new Civic, because it makes their Scoobys look comparatively handsome

Having just exchanged an RSX-S (a CTR with leather, pretty much the same weight) for an S2k, I think that the K20 engine is a step ahead of the F20C in overall performance, if not ultimate HP and speed. The K20 is much torquier and smoother, but it definitely does not have the crazy high rev power. In daily driving, I think the RSX-S may actually be a little quicker for me at lower speeds because the engine is so much more tractable.

But, once you get past 6K rpms, the S2k is the hands down winner, and the S2k's suspension is much better than the DC5/EP3 chassis. I am interested to see if Honda can tune the McStrut suspension to S2k standards.

If you surf ClubRSX you'll find several guys that are getting 215+ at the wheels with basic mods, so there is a lot of potential in the K20 that could bring that setup close to the S2k. When (I'm assuming) that Honda puts the i-VTEC technology in the S2k, you guys are going to be impressed. You will have a smaller, lighter, torquier engine with serious mod potential.
