But the difference between an S2000 horror story and this one is that VW is already trying to crawl out of a well deserved reliability/quality hole that it was in quite solidly just a few years ago.

poor experience with my GFs MK4 jetta also. lots of weird stuff failing on a babied car with low mileage.

Granted it is an isolated incident, but folks here on these boards have complained about vw issues. It's no secret that they tend to cause the most headaches, so stop trying to be a smart ass about oh it's one isolated incident.
