It's embarrassing that the author addresses the main reason Rota draws ire (that they are knock-offs of other designs) as almost an afterthought in his "2,705-word article."

I guarantee that if Rota only produced original designs at the same cost, nobody would've bitched about them being cast at all.

I bet he feels like this Chinese Li Fan 320 isn't a knockoff of a Mini too, huh?

That is pretty much it. If Rota would have launched with a few original designs first, and then made similar copies to other wheels later I feel they wouldn't have been criticized so harshly.

I know it's off topic, but speaking of MS Paint, did everyone see this guy painting the Mona Lisa using only MS Paint? Pretty amazing.

Because consumers in general are undereducated. You see it all the time with brand loyalty, people don't take the time to understand why something may be better than something else, it's just easier to buy the ultimate driving machine vs understanding why it is/isn't the ultimate driving machine.
I do wish that they would make original designs because even though there is no such things as "fake" wheels (I mean they exist and function properly right?), there is design infringement. That said, every wheel is a copy or was inspired by another wheel, I mean how many different ways can you make a five spoke design original?
But yeah, love it when the rim folk go on and say oh that's crap, because SSRs, Rays, OZs, etc neeeever bend, and racing teams pay full price for them because they are so awesome right?

I'm glad you're not a wheel designer.

That was a crappy read. I mean it was written well enough, but the content was crap. How do you push Rotas on people? Nothing orginal about Rota what-so-ever.

I think it was more about the 'Rotas always crack' than the originality of design.
