Veyron...OR....?
It's been a while since we've had one of these threads.
This month's CAR magazine (UK) has a test of the Veyron, and an accompanying article about what the editors would buy instead of a Veyron for the same money. They used 1mm in British Pounds Sterling, which is about $1.9mm USD.
So, what do you buy for $1.9mm? (values approximate)
My list:
427 Cobra: $400k
My favorite car, ever. One with the jackstands instead of bumpers, please.
Ferrari 250GT Lusso: $200k
One of the most beautiful Ferraris of all time.
246GTS Dino: $70k
Again, a gorgeous Ferrari, and very useable.
Mercedes 300SL Gullwing: $400k
Beautiful and an iconic car.
Mercedes 300SL roadster: $250k
Gotta have the convertible to match the Gullwing
Mercedes SL600: $130k
A perfect DD, and the one of the fastest "normal" cars you are likely to see on the street.
Range Rover Supercharged: $100k
Because sometimes it snows.
FFR spec racer: $25k
Racing the REAL Cobra would be dumb, and racing=cool.
'87 911 turbo: $40k
One of the last turbos that was built to kill stupid people.
'69 911S: $50k
One of the quintessential versions of my favorite "normal" car.
Ferrari 355GTS: $70k
I like it better than the 360 and 430. And it will have a 6-speed, no flappy paddles.
1985 Mercedes 380SL: $30k
Started my love affair with cars.
911 Carrera S X51: $100k
A DD for days I don't feel like driving the SL600.
Lotus Elise: $45k
Rich man's Miata. And I'd be rich, bitch.
Total: $1,910,000. Give or take.
So what's it gonna be?

So what's it gonna be?
Porsche Carrera GT - $450K (really fun car)
Ferrari F430 Spyder - $225K (fun car)
Porsche GT3 - $115K (track car)
Audi S8 - $110K (travelling/daily driver/business car)
Infiniti FX45 - $45K (wife's car)
GMC 3500HD Duramax diesel - $50K (working vehicle)
Honda VFR800 - $10K
That's a cool million (roughly) right there.
I'd probably get a couple of enclosed trailers with awnings, storage room for tires and such, tool chest and compressors/generators built in ($100K) and a used motorhome for long distance trips since I could take the whole family that way ($200K).
That's $1.305M right there so I'd have $595K left over. I can build a 3500 sq foot home with a 10 car garage on 10 acres for that, so that's what I'd do...
No idea how I'd pay for insurance, gas, and maintenance, though.
In all reality, I'd never buy that many cars together. If it was my money, I would:
1. Buy Ferrari F430 Spyder ($225K - exotic)
2. Buy heavily modified Comptech Supercharged S2000 ($50K - fun daily driver/auto-x/track car)
3. Buy Infiniti FX45 or MDX ($50K - wife/family car)
4. Buy Comptech Supercharged Acura TSX ($40K - bad weather daily driver/business car)
5. Buy GMC Duramax HD pickup ($50K - work/tow vehicle)
6. Build dream home ($500K)
That's $915K. I could pay off my Mom's house ($150K), give $50K to each of my siblings ($200K), give $300K to charity, and still have $335K left in the bank for investment/savings/vacation. That's a lot closer to how I'd do it. I might even switch out the F430 for a GT3 instead - cheaper, about as quick, probably more reliable, and easier to find a dealer.

I'd buy a house in Irvine, California, which I'm looking at about $1.2.
Then I'd put in the 5 car garage
1. Nissan Skyline GT-R R34
2. a nice 7 seater vehicle (awesome for camping trips)
3. Brabus Mercedes S class
4. Hamann Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet
5. a really realy big refrigerator for drinks and stuff & with that, I should be able to squeeze in a Yamaha R1 or Suzuki Hayabusa

I'm no fun. I'd get:
- 335i/E350 wagon sport/E550 sport - whichever one I liked best - $50K
- Boxster S - $60K
- ML350/X5 - I presume the Mrs. would narrow down her lux. cross-over thing to one of these - $50K
- GT3 - ONLY if after driving it, I absolutely HAD to have it. Otherwise, the Boxster S would suffice - $100K
- New house with acreage - $1.2M
- Travel/retirement/business investment - $440-540K (if no GT3)
- 10 years later I could think about a used 599GTB old-school stick or DB9 stick having lived with no mortgage for 10 years.
I just don't think I could stomach paying much more than $100K for a car (depreciation, deterioration, and redesign).
I can't believe rai didn't start this thread...

I'd invest (or buy real estate) for $1.4M and with the rest buy a F430 spider ($200K), S8 ($100K), GT3 ($110) (give or take)
If I had to spend it all on cars, I guess I'd buy:
STi/EVO
GT3
F430 Spider
S8
Elise/Exige
ML65
Z06
^the rest I'd buy vintage cars Ferrari, Porsche, Ford etc..
I read somewhere you can lease a Bug for like $29K/month.
I don't even like the Veyron, 4400 lbs (bleh).
They're cool to read about, but IMO a F430 is about perfect for less than 1/5th of the price.
I don't really like to drive that fast (the Veyron 250 mph, no thanks, I'll leave that to pilots and race car drivers).
