You'll notice that the first 5 of mine (about $1.3mm worth) are hardly DEPRECIATING assets. A Cobra, Lusso, Gullwing, Dino and SL roadster are hardly going to drop much, if at all, and neither will the '69 911S. In fact, I'd probably be able to MAKE money on those.

The 380SL, 930 and F355 are essentially done depreciating. That just leaves the RR, new 911, SL600, Elise, and FFR, or about $400k of depreciating assets. No biggie, for a hypothetical baller like me.

S2000 - Keep my '04 ($0, I already have it)

BMW M3 - get the new one ($70,000, I would get it loaded

Chevy Suburban - got to haul the boat in style ($50,000 - loaded)

Toyota Prius - for my gf who wants to be economical ($30,000 - loaded)

I would then buy a bigger house for $1,000,000.

I would then give $300,000 to my parents and $100,000 to my brother and sister

I still have $250,000 left, I would buy 2 new 4-stroke jetskis, a smaller sailboat, a few new surfboards, wetsuits.

About $200,000 left, I would put it in the bank...

come to think of it, given that I already have my MTV Cribs house, I'd much rather spend the car money building my own hot rod monsters instead of buying 6-figure garage queens

every car I listed would have some degree of road time. even the 6-figure ones

I take joy in firing up the engine and flying down the road, not collecting museum pieces

I'll play-
Ferrari Challenge Stradale - for driving
AM V8 Vantage - for pimping
RR Sport - for ski trips
AMG E63 - for crusing when I don't want to shift
Mini S - beater/city car
987 w/ a GT3 swap - roadster
Ferrari Dino 206 GT - classic

(wow, nothing bigger than a v8? I dissapoint myself sometimes....)

Put the remainder ($1.3M) into a nice house with a big garage.

I want to know who can really enjoy driving a million dollar machine in traffic. I don't mean stop and go, just normal, everyday streets. And by "enjoy," I mean, forget about how much the car costs, and just relax and kick the back end out around a corner once in a while, hammer the gas down an empty street late in the evening, go for a drive on the freeway just because it is nice out, that sort of thing. Take the car to the liquor store Friday after work, running the engine close to redline while putting around at the speed limit, just to hear it.

It's not hard to enjoy a car that doesn't cost all that much and can be found on any dealer lot in North America. But how much real pleasure is there in shepherding a million bucks of irreplaceable machinery through a grocery store parking lot? I can see taking it to a fancy club because the valet will park it near the door, but driving home after bar close must be nerve-wracking.

It's funny to me, spending that kind of cash on what is supposed to be the pinnacle of sports cars designed solely for the driver's entertainment, but sucked dry of all fun simply because of the value of the work and technology that went into making it what it is. I hope I'm never rich enough to be that joyless

This is a fun thread but we need some pricing standardization.

Whoever is using numbers like $175K to $225k for F430 spiders should rework their budgets based on street pricing currently over $300K.
