by your definition, a FWD Civic Si is more of a sportscar than any in the list above.

yes- by my definition. The less the driver is involved, the stupider it is. Check out top gear with Sabine back to back driving the manual and automatic something or other- the manual car wins!

+1!

my comment about manuals is strictly a personal opinion- a car must have a manual for me just because i hate- truly hate- automatic anything transmissions.

Sports car is a car in which its primary design and focus is for motor sport type activity.

Know your audience. For a car enthusiast, it usually means a somewhat lightweight, 2-seat (Maaaaybe 2+2 on an exception basis; 911/RX-8) RWD, manual transmission car.

For the general population, it's anything with 2 doors and/or a spoiler.

But a sports car has a decent power to weight ratio, smaller car, 2 door, likely a manual (really, who are we kidding, it has to be a manual), with no frills or luxuries to take away from the driving.
this rules out all Ferrari's, all Lambos, all GT3s and most other Porsches, most R8s, most Corvettes, etc.

I like Quikag's definition.
Ferrari, Lamborghini, GT3, R8, etc., are not sports cars.

That's a sports truck. "Car" vs "truck" referring to body style more than anything. Just like a sports bike is a bike engineered to be ridden for fun. And a TRX450R is a sports ATV.

I think the classic definition is Rwd, manual, convertible, 2 doors and 2 seats.

Miata Is Always The Answer.
