what do I need to do
here is the story
my friend just bought a MY06 corvette (base model), my other friend has a MY95 supra that pushes 400+ WHP, and of course I have a MY00 s2000.
the corvette and s2000 went on a little sprited drive and tackled some mountain roads
When the road was twisty and had lots of switch backs, I was able to keep up or even gain on the corvette
, but as soon as a little stretch of straight road appeared, the corvette would just pull off, leaving me with
.
We are thinking about going to the track also, but with such a huge difference in power, I don't think I can keep up. So I thought about it a little... if I can at least match power-to-weight ratio, maybe I won't fall behind so much (I am not even dreaming about passing them at the track... I just don't want to disappear in their rear view mirror).
Power-to-weight of corvette = 400HP/3179lbs = 0.1258
Power-to-weight of supra = ~450HP/3525lbs = 0.1277
Power-to-weight of s2000 = 240HP/2809lbs = 0.0854
To get close to the corvette's power-to-weight ratio, I'd have to generate approx. 350HP (at the crank)... I guess supercharger will do it?
So... here is the question... is my logic mis-lead? Will I be able to keep up with corvette and supra just with supercharger? If I need to do more, what other things needs to be done. The car still needs to be daily driven and street legal, so has to be realiable mod. TIA for the input
edit: weight of supra to recalculate power-to-weight

I thought Supras weighed more than 3215 lbs?
If you need to generate 350 hp at the crank, I would personally suggest going turbo. You have much more room to make power (in the event your buddies start modding their cars), and you get boost at lower rpms as opposed to a supercharger. I'd suggest looking over the Forced Induction forum and doing some research.

thanks for the inputs. I guess I should have purchased a sebring
the color advantage right? haha
As for the weight of the supra, I saw some at 3215lbs some at 3525 lbs... I guess TT version is the heavier one (edited the original post to reflect that).

You aren't going to like the answer, but you might be better served by trading in the S and getting your own Corvette. That would be the easiest, most efficient way of doing it.
A Supercharger will help, but it won't end there. You will need a new pressure plate for your clutch, and will probably want to improve your diff. Of course, if you are going to upgrade your diff, you might as well get gears while you are at it.
Then you will realize, that having a greater advantage in the corners will help you even more on the straights. So coil-overs will be on your list. Big brakes would be a help, but then you need new wheels to clear the brakes. Then you are going to want track tires and a trailer to get the tires to the track. (Of course, an extra set of wheels with the track tires on them.)
Then you will get concerned about safety, so you will get a racing seat, a roll cage and a harness to keep you in the car in case something bad happens, but also to help keep you planted through turns.
Keep in mind that a turbo setup will be all custom work so your car will be out of service more often then it will be in service for a while. It will cost you a LOT of money and in the end might not be as reliable as you would hope for.
OR
Pickup a used C5 Z06 and you would be able to keep up, and probably even pass your buddies at the track. You will probably still want to do at least some of the upgrades above, but you would be able to delay them for a while because you are able to keep up with your friend so you won't feel as pressed to get them NOW.

A friend of mine use to have a MY02 and it was just S/C and he told me he beat several base model C5 vettes...C5 and a S/C S should be a close race but my friend can shift like a mofo...
I believe the new ones are a little faster think you need to upgrade one pulley size on the charger if you decide to get it.

C5 Z06 to C6 (NON-Z06) is a 5hp decrease. 405-400 hp.

I didn't except to hear "S/C will r0x0r him" or anything like that haha, so thanks for the honest answer.
I know I have the disadvantage in the machine catagory, but maybe... just maybe... I can keep up with my friends with supercharger + better driving? I don't mind falling slightly behind in the straights if SC can provide just enough power so I don't get blown away... I can probably catch him up in the series of corners or tight sections.
