Elise; I've already started talking to my wife about it. If they formally announce end of production and I'm up against the last chance to get a new one, a relatively low-mileage S2000 is going to be available in MD.
Escape clause: if the next-gen Miata is as light as romored, I might rethink this and rejoin the Mazda fold.

Easy question for me: Porsche 911S. It was the car I originally intended to purchase after the Prelude that I used to own, but instead I ended up buying the S2000 as an "interim fun car". While I had the S2000, I really didn't crave the Porsche that much, but still figured I'd want to buy one someday. Now that I no longer have the S2000, I still desperately want a 911, but it just seems to be out of reach for my budget.

At this point, a Boxster S would be all that I need. Perfect balance of power, handling, size and functionality. But with a house and a 4 month old son, I'm so far away from getting one I might was well dream about a Zonda.

I know how you feel man. I have a 23 month old and a 5 month old. It will be a while before I am able to get another car in the stable.

Since my last S2000, I've bought a Cayman S, M3, and 2 Miatas. I'm getting my 3rd S2000 (an '08) at the beginning of May. Can't say it's my dream car, or that I wouldn't have any interest in anything better, but it hits the sweet spot of price, performance, reliability, quality, and ease of maintenance (I totally under-estimated how much the CS' covered engine compartment diminished the satisfaction of doing basic maintenance/tinkering).
That said, if money wasn't an issue, or if I was willing to live w/ payments on a car, I'd aim much higher. I still haven't checked the 911 off my bucket list, make mine a GTS (at least until the next gen arrives). Aiming even higher, an Audi R8, F430/458, or McLaren would all be worthy of a spot in my garage should be financials be significantly fortified.

I like the way you think! Check my sig and you'll know why.
With too many horses and dogs to feed and a farm to keep up I can't afford a Koenigsegg so my next car will be something more common. As soon as I find a C6 3lt 6m the way I want it the goofy little turbo wagon will be gone. Someday another Miata might move in as well as a Cayman S. I will also be watching for F150 Raptors to drop into the 30K range...
