When shifting gear, clutch all the way in? or..
I just learned stick shift by myself and when I shift gears I press the clutch all the way in..but my friend said just press in below the sweet spot...which is the right way? is it same for both up/down shifting??

on some cars there is no reason to push it all the way in. Going into first or reverse usually reuires it but most of the rest of the gears won't, in my experience. I don't see any reason to depress the clutch all the way down when you can feel where it disengages the transmission
FWIW, I don't grind my gears, and can't even remember the last time it happened.

since you are new at driving stick, just go ahead and press it all the way down. just focus on improving driving stick smoothly before worrying about more advanced techniques. i've been driving stick for years, and i generally just step on the clutch all the way down unless i'm trying to achieve super quick shifts, which in everyday driving i rarely am that concerned with.

All the way down is safest but when I'm shifting quickly, I just push barely past the disengagement point.
Day to day driving, I push it all the way down. Driving quickly, I just lightly depress the clutch to shift more quickly.
