Default changed gear without clutch

While growing up, i would always change gears in my fiat punto without the clutch, my dad tought me how, he said that it makes you gain a better feel for the car. I would put it into nutral, tap the gas and change gears (like double clutching but with no clutch). Has anyone tried this in their s2000?

Not in my S, but I periodically do this in my Prelude just to keep in practice. I learned it from a friend who owns a '70 911 - he got caught driving home Michigan to Binghamton, NY on a Sunday, when his clutch cable broke. No chance of a replacement in middle-of-nowhere Upstate New York, so he had to make it home without using the clutch. It's really pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Just don't expect the shift to be fast (especially downshifts). If you do it right, it's butter-smooth. I can't imagine it hurting anything (but I'm no transmission expert).

Bellevue S2k - You can't do it from a stop...without killing the tranny.

Shifting without the clutch is perfectly fine for your transmission/synchros IF you do it properly by rev matching perfectly during downshifts and letting the engine drop to the proper RPM upshifting. If you hear any sort of sound from your transmission at all then you're not doing it correctly.

I've tried it in my S2K, but I don't do it very often at all because I can't stand to hear that inevitable grind when you're not *perfect*.

Double clutching is essentially giving you the same effect with some room for error because even though you rev match and are ready for that clutchless shift, you still use the clutch.

WARNING TO OUR YOUNGER VIEWERS! This is a very expensive tranny and expensive to repair. Although it can be done without "grenading", have a big bucket of money ready in case it goes sour. I used to do this on motorcycles (cheap) and I'm sure I could do it in the S but why would I want to? What are you trying to prove?
Look Ma! I can shift gears in this thing with no clutch. The first five times was great but now what do I do with all these gears and teeth I picked up off the pavement?

I used to do this with my chevette. Had a bad left foot one time and only used the clutch to start off. It never killed the tranny, but then again it was at normal speeds.

However, once I got a CRX and forever after, I never did it again. There is no need to risk the damage.
