Why must the Elise plague me so?

I feel the same way, I've been telling all my friends about it for like 2 years! They hate that I keep mentioning it.
It's so hard, if I keep the S2k i'll have to admit I want more than just the raw driving feel.
ugh....
I'm waiting till I break even on my loan before I decide.

bubbastook. I know you are a 'grown up' from a previous conversation we had a long time ago. Anyway, I'm sure you have a reliable dependable car in your stable. So sell the s and get the Elise. It's a frigging bargain of a performance car. Get it with a warranty and enjoy. If I were in your shoes, I'd be seriously considering it, but since my s is my daily driver I need the dependability.

I have two friends that own Celica GT-S's, but they both have 4AT's and don't often do spirited driving. (Their cars always seem to have a weird rattle to them when they take off, so that's probably the biggest reason why I'm iffy on the engine's reliability.) So I've always wanted to discuss the 2ZZ engine with somebody who really pushes it. Mind answering some questions for me?
Is there a dyno of the engine you can show me? I've heard the VVT-i kicks in at 6000rpm with a significant increase in torque, but shifting at redline takes you to below that point. (Might be moot point with the Elise, though.) I also thought redline was right at 8000rpm, which doesn't give you much room to enjoy the high-end hp hit.
The other thing I've heard is that there's not much out there in the aftermarket that gives significant hp gains (sorta like the F20C, I guess.) Hopefully Lotus has been able to do some good tweaking on both low and high ends...

As far as Lotus has it own ECU for the engine and it will put out an extra 10hp to bump it to 190hp with better mid range, I really want to see the dyno.
What is disappointing is how toyota set the gear ratios that drop out of lift between the 1-2 and 2-3 unless you drive/shift abusively to keep it from dropping out of lift, which leads to transmission and sycro problem. I get a grinding sometime if I try to shift hard due the wear on my sycro from landing lift. On the celica the indicated red line is 7800 (8200 for the matrix)and the rev limit is 8400rpms, except the 02' model.
There is not a lot of aftermarket support still. There a no cams out yet, if you want a header that will produce gains(TRD of Trail) you will spend $700-800, The Power FC tuned by monkeywrench is coming out with impressive dyno results. I respond well to mods the high rpm gains from CAI are impressive various dynos show an average of about 8whp I so I hope the elise will help produce more support for the 2zz.
