I almost bought a 1993 RX7 back in 01. it had 39,200 miles. My good friend that is a mechanic, said that the engine is done at 40,000 and needs rebuilt. Especially, when you are going to DRIVE it. anyway I bought a built prelude with a H22a and never looked back.

They are a Beautiful car though... just my opinion.

maybe if i understood the history of the car or the significance in the history of the tuner craze, i might, but i don't really understand any of it, so i wouldn't. And certainly not for an ap2, maybe a straight up trade for an ap1, but judging from asking prices for rx-7 FDs(autotrader), i doubt anyone with an FD would do a straight up trade for an ap1.

Given that the two cars cost around the same, everyone on this forum who owns an S2000 has already answered your question...
My sentiment as well - I have the money, and I bought an S, and I used to own an RX-7. For a DD, I'd rather drive the S, but not because of reliability - I think the S is a better car. Same goes for the NSX, Supra, 300ZX TT, and a host of other great 90s cars that were great in the 90s but are just old today.

The problem with RX-7s is tuners got their hands on them. Same with Supras - tuners ruined the cars more than they improved them.

I wonder what the percentage of untouched, running RX7s and Supras (TT specifically) is in the US?

After this post I did hit up Ebay motors and saw a '93 CYM R1, in pretty mint condition, like 40K miles and no mods. They wanted $19K for it.

Unmolested models just seem overpriced. technology and bang for you buck has come a long way - for $20k you can just buy a newer better car anymore.

Yeah, it's so rare for anything from that generation - especially the "tuner" type cars - to be clean and bone stock, the rarity just jacks up the price into painfully unreasonable.

I think the last Supra TT I saw being offered bone stock was a '98, Quicksilver, 6-speed (so a rare car in itself), but for like $45K! Look at what you can buy in faster, newer, more capable cars for that price.

If $10K for a low-mileage RX7 in great shape, then hell yes! It's a really fun car; but put a few thousand aside for future maintenance and repairs.

the fd was beautiful, fast, unique, and beyond cool. there is a reason however why you do not see many on the road.
