I'd only do it if the extra money between KBB was enough to get another car in case I had issues with the FD.

Maybe get a used AP1 or 350Z to daily drive while the FD will be your garage queen?

FD, awesome car, as long as you don't need to drive it every day and you've got a good bit of extra cash for later.

I owned one for 2 years. In that 24 months it spent 14 months in the Mazda dealer/ repair shop. And that was in 1998. I, with the warranty, spent over $20K on repairs of stock parts. I replaced the brakes, steering, wheel bearings, turbos, motor, trans, and some other stuff I can't remember right now. I typically got between 8 and 10 mpg, but who cares.

Sure was fun when it ran though.

I've tried and succeeded in daily driving one since 2006. A turbo one at that. Kthx.
FDs only came in a Twin turbo....

On a side note, still haven't had the chance to go look at it yet. Going tomorrow morning, hoping it doesn't rain.....

It is hard for me to imagine the RX7 being any more fun to drive than the S2000, once you get past the the initial thrill of turbo thrust!

Besides the top down advantage of the S2000, the RX7 is a much older car and from what I have heard would be a maintenance nightmare. Too many have posted about this and I have heard it from time to time in other car circles.

Honda S2000 >>>>> Mazda RX7

So does the RX-7 FD have double wishbone suspension? I've looked at the RX7Club forums for an answer but no luck

Chassis and Body Layout
Front engine Rear wheel drive

Suspension, front
Independent, double-wishbones by unequal length upper and lower arms, coil springs, telescopic dampers, anti-roll bar

Suspension, rear
Independent, double-wishbones by upper A-arms, lower transverse I-arms, transverse toe-control links, trailing links, coil springs, telescopic dampers. anti-roll bar

FWIW, that's from a link I had saved from years ago, one of the major RX7 boards, sounds reasonable.

Thanks for that info, sounds good. The RX-7 FD sure was a no compromise sports car.

I'd love to own one and tune the hell out of it. It's funny because I wouldn't tune the S2000 much at all..just do some exterior modifcations.

The RX-7 however, I'd love to put a 3 rotor in there...get up to 900+HP, the shifts would be insane.
