Thumbs up Would you be okay buying a used car

Would you feel comfortable buying a used car that was tuned/chipped?

I think I would have a hard time buying a car that was modified. I really dont care how much I'm paying. There is no way I would want to pay $$$ for one.

Alot of factors would have to come into play. IE who tuned it, how long ago it was tuned, if I was buying it for a track car or a DD...Things like that.

I'm talking about a DD.

If it was tuned by a shop I trusted, sure. I would likely go talk to them and see what the history was on the customer and the car.

If it's personal tuning, forget it.

Depends on what was done to it and by whom. I sold a very highly modified car to an older guy last year. I explained what was done in detail and showed pictures of my work. When I convinced him I'm not some hack, he felt comfortable buying the car.

That said, I would not buy a modified car from the typical 20 year old kid.

Receipts & records for everything. Even then I'd still be reluctant.

No.

When I buy a used car I have bought one that looked like the PO beat on it, but it was stock, it was a toyota, and I was willing to put a little money in to get it up to snuff. Otherwise the only other used car I bought was my S2000 which was stock lease return with 12,000 miles and not a scratch. It was cherry.

There are people who are willing to buy a modded car, I am not one of them. But I will need to find one when I sell my S2000 someday because I am slapping an SC on it.. I assume my resale will suffer, but so be it.

But I buy a toy car for the long term or I would not buy it. A premodded car does not sound like a good long term bet.
