Short term, the 360 Modena.

Long term, the R8.

I have driven a 360 and it left me speechless, the 430 left me drooling. As much as I enjoy the Ferrari's, I can't take any pleasure maintaining them (and the 430 is much better in this respect). Even though I have never driven one and have to take what has been written at face value, I think that the R8 would be the better car to own for years to come. However, we don't know what to expect with regards to the re-sale value of the Audi.

I said before, the R8 is very tempting. It blends comfort/luxury and sport (very nicely).

I'm tempted to place a deposit but I never even have seen the R8 and not sat in one to see if I fit.

The 18+ month wait doesn't bother me. I can use that time to scratch up a down payment.
the cabin is surprisingly spacious- i am not tall and had no problem getting in or out, but was with a friend who is 6'2" + and he also had no problem- he commented that it felt like more headroom than his 911.
i also feels wider than a 911 inside- more "elbow room"

the reviews all agree with you about the comfort/luxury and sport blend.

go for that deposit!! as long as its refundable, cant hurt-

C6 Z06 and 335i. Oh, that's not an option? Hmmm, tough tough choice...I love Ferrari, and they are my dream machines...but a brand new car is just a much nicer feeling when spending that amount of cash. To experience every single mile that goes on your pride and joy, that's why I'd go with the Audi. The Ferrari will look dated when the newer (as in after the 430) f-car comes out.

Edit: Hmmm, I think I'm changing my mind to the Ferrari. Tough decision

Well, I wouldn't expect R8s to drop below $50-60k even after 4-6 years of ownership. It's a performance car of well-above average ability, on top of being an exotic layout, with exotic looks.

The key plus behind the R8 is its relative reliability.

If I was using my own money where I had to finance it for example: R8. If all of a sudden I could drop $130k without even knowing it was gone I would get the 360. Actually I would probably just get both if I have that much money.

The GT2 is supposedly a real handful. More powerful than any of the other Porsches but only RWD (not AWD) with little-to-no electronic nannies to keep it on the straight and narrow. Yet, it's heavier than the GT3 so supposedly not as nimble or agile. I can only say that based on what I've read, not what I've driven, since I haven't driven a GT2 and only ridden in a GT3.

It's also $180K+ for the base GT2, vs $115-120K for the base GT3. That's 50% more!!!
You could compare the 996 GT2. It's a great car and costs roughly the same 120k for 2003-2004. It's kind of in the middle in terms of years. 2001 360, 2004 GT2, 2007/8 R8. Of those 3 I would take the GT2.
