My point is, Vette is the value pick.

I'm not even saying 911 tt vs Z06 could be C5 400hp v 911 base 325hp. You're still paying a premium to get the baby 911. If your number one priority is bang-for-the-buck then vette wins. If you value something else more than bftb then maybe you'll pay extra for the P-car.
I was a little confused by your post at first. Just to clarify: The C5 base is only 350HP, the C5 Z06 is 405. The C6 base is 400 and the C6 Z06 is 500.

You point is still well taken.

I'm not convinced this is true.

Go examine them both closely and see for yourself.

Doesn't this question really just come down to $ (don't most decisions re. consumer goods come down to this)? Though, I could certainly imagine people who could afford the 911 chosing the Vette. I think the C6 is an amazing overall package with few real flaws. But, if I had $ burning a hole in my pocket (and by $, I mean a h.h.i. of at least $400K), I'd probably go for the Carerra S. But, then again, if I had stupid $ burning a hole in my pocket (a h.h.i. of at least $900K), I'd buy a 575M with standard 6-spd and Fiorano package. Or maybe a 550 Barchetta, or DB9, or Daytona, or... You get my point. Value is always relative to how much $ you got, right? At my real world income level now (and in the foreseeable future), the Vette would do beautifully.

They have similar performance, but the driving dynamic is very different.

This comparison has been in several magazine. If $/value is the thing then go for the Vette. For a better, more pure driving experience then go for the 911. From my past experience of driving my 911 on the track & having the opportunity to drive the C5 & C5 Z06 right after that, the 911 was a better driving experience, even though the Corvette was just as fast. I would not get a "regular" Carrera these days, as I think Porsche copped out on making the revision. I like the Carrera S (and felt this should have been the "standard 911"). The new Z06 (I saw at the LA Autoshow) was very, very nice as well. Between those two I would be hard pressed. if it was the new Z06 or the upcoming 997 TT then I would go the new 911 TT.

simply put 911. i have owned two porsche and one 911 and would own another one. i have driven countless corvettes and like them but would not buy one...why??? everyone knows the 911 costs more to own and service and when they go wrong they cost...but he corvette is just gm junk with a large engine...common, there are nice examples of them out there and some folks who get them actually get a good amount of use out of them and have NO problems...but that is the exception.

besides what i have written above, and dont' get me wrong, the corvette goes and handles, the 911 is a better ride and you can carry more stuff in it for every day use. without traction control the vette is a handful in nasty weather comparred to the porsche.

at this point in my life i think the honda is a much better car for me...but i want a 911 cab someday and there is no corvette on my list of cars to have.

I could afford either, but it's a lot easier to spend less, maybe save a penny for a rainy day and all that good stuff.
Factor in depreciation (poor for both cars) and enjoyment spent behind the wheel.

but he corvette is just gm junk with a large engine...commo
For anyone else reading this thread, this idiot does not represent all of us.

No you have not. General rule of thumb, people who own Porsches can spell and construct complete sentences.

The Porsche has rear seats, tiny as they may be they are in fact seats and big enough to fit a childs seat in. For me that was the deciding factor, not price, prestige, reliability, looks or performance -- because they are very close in every one of those regards save space and price.
