The high reving S2000 engine
#22
Its not surprising to find the S2000 cruising speed is at a relatively high rpm. Generally speaking cars gearing is based around its power band and rpm limit is part of that. The power band on our car is shifted up in the rpms, so naturally our higher numerical gearing coincides with this. Cars that make power lower in the rpm range have a reduced rev limit and with a more concentrated power band, they typically will have lower gearing to spread out that trq band instead, and as a result a lower cruising rpm. The Corvette and viper are prime examples of this. S2000 and 360 are at the other end of the spectrom of the pwer band and gearing relationship.
