Get a 5th generation prelude. i had one for 3 years never got broken into never got touched. Its got a good amount of power and probably a lot more torque than a GSR and handles better too. Awesome car

We used to have a 00' CRV 4WD it was a great grocerygetter/ daily

I went with this plan and am picking up this 97 CRV later today:

It is a serious pita to find a cheap CRV that isn't a POS. I ran into this guy when I was at a local Honda dealer looking at Pilots and he was trying to trade in his CRV. It has alot of miles but it looks like he took really good care of it.

I know this car isn't on your list, but if practical and worthless to steal are at the top of your list of priorities...

It's within 50 miles of Chicago. The mileage is unlisted, but worst case it's like 180,000. But for $1300 and a little elbow grease (which I know you're okay with), I'm sure you could live with it. And it would be well under your $5000 range. I know you want 4 doors, but the RSX, Prelude, Civic Si and CL all lack the same... The only thing is that you can probably get this car for under a grand.

^ 99 times out of 100 a car like that priced like that at a dealer lot is a spectacular shitbox with a salvage title.

^ You're probably right... In this case, the extra few grand leap to near $5,000 is probably worth it, considering it may come with fewer headaches and more predictable issues.

But sometimes you get lucky. A buddy of mine picked up a '97 Corolla with 177,000 miles on it for $2,500. It runs wonderfully. Granted, that's double the cost of the car I posted, but sometimes you can find a diamond in the rough.
