MERCEDECES C280 problem
Hello people,
I got a 99 C280 as my second car and its a piece of SHIET.
Many problems in the past, but I will just get to the point on the most recent one.
My wife was driving back from getting her nails done and the car stalled while pulling into the driveway( luckily). I was able to get it started a few minutes later and thought maybe it was bad gas and filled up the tank.
I was driving to work today to see if it happened again and it did while idling at a light. This time it started right up and I drove it back home and drove the S into work.
The symptoms are, less than average pick up (boggin down) and dies without any rough idle. It may start the first time, or it may start after 15 minutes.
I've read on other sited that it may be the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF)? or the crankshaft position sensor? Anyone who has a C280 have this problem?

how old is the battery? change it if it's over 4. check the alternator too. hopefully it's something simple. i'm sure there's more knowledgeable folks here with more insight.

Funny how you mentioned the battery. There was a recall on this two years back and they replaced it .
I took off the MAF sensor and cleaned out the connector terminals and the actual filament with some brake cleaner. I also pulled narrowed the gap on the pin contacts to reduce the intermittancy. It seems to have worked, but I need to put some more miles on the car in the worst heat and the ac cranking to prove it out just like when it happended.
If this works I will have saved $450 that the dealership quoted on the phone, IF it was to be this problem.

i used to have a c280 and experiend the same problem. I took it back to the dealer and if I remember correctly it had to do something with the computer
i feel your pain, it used to stall on me at real bad times, once in the middle of an intersection ( 4-way) not cool.
