Default about SatNav / Tomtom

I was thinking its about time to get satnav and TomTom seems to be the most known one... I am looking at the devices and they seem to be the same machine but with different prices for different maps

I just want UK realy, is the TomTom one a good one? I see dixons are doing them for about

Yes. The higher the price is just for features really. You get a bigger screen, bluetooth for hands free, built in memory so you can play mp3s etc, and usually europe maps included.

Tom Tom go is great

You need to read how to use it though as I have had mine 2 years now and yesterday Ian explained how to use it. I managed to go 65 miles out of my way at mega meet

I like TTG too, but mine went through a phase of getting lost/going nuts.

It even suddenly put a scamera at the end of my road - which is in fact a cul-de-sac.

It's got better now - lithium from the batteries?

I am finding their support particularly crap. Their s/w update for the TT crashed and killed mine, took me hours to recover it - their tech support have been useless (i.e. not responded to the call at all) whereas in the past they have been great. I suspect they are selling more than they can cope with?

If you type a town in and put a street in that doesn't exist in the town it takes you to that street, so it can be anywhere

Probably some arbitrary point in the town that TT thinks is the "centre". Same as if you hit the name of the town twice (ie provide no street at all).

I bought the Tom Tom 710, with the full European maps already loaded, it is cheaper to do this than add maps later.
When I first had it (approx 3 months ago) it lead me into the middle of a field, 20 miles from where I was heading, it then locked up and refused to work untill I found the RESET button.
After resetting and connecting to the web for a new software upgrade it has been perfect and very reliable and takes seconds to recalculate an alternative route.
If you set for a town with no street listed it takes you to the recognised town centre, ie church, council offices etc.

Do they have speed camera locations?
Is it updated regularly - regardless of how often the user updates?
What abour laswe / radar detectors as on Road Angel?

Been thinking about getting a TomTom but don't want to lose the functions of my Road Angel. And I somehow think a lot of people waste a lot of money on them. eg all the Corsas I see with them blocking half the windscreen when the driver never goes more than 7 miles from home?
